Hmmm.
Makes me think of one of my grandmothers, who said in response to such things: "That's all right for cows, who have nothing else to do all day but stand in a field and suckle their young!"
Okay, I see the health and psychological benefits for mother and baby up until around max. 18 months/2, but beyond that, I don't see the point. Kids have other skills they need to spend time developing as they reach age 2 and mum's bone density will decline if she's not ovulating for too long a time.
I do know of a woman who still co-sleeps with her youngest, now 4 (of five kids) and until he was well past 3 he was still being breastfed by him in her bed in the middle of the night, not just during the day. They seem happy enough, but I don't know if that's particularly good for a marriage.

About developing other skills, though. Once the kiddo can walk, and even before, nursing becomes wayyyy backseat to other skills.
My kid, while nursing exclusively and a LOT (mostly bc she has reflux and has to take small, frequent meals), has managed to pretty much potty train herself and learn all kinds of interesting things. She's nowhere behind, and I assume she will stay right on track if not a bit ahead, despite the fact that she may have a gulp here-and-there.
Again, these nursing toddlers aren't attached to the tit. They're doing fun, creative things!
(The girls in the video seemed to me not to have much socialization skills...just from observing their responses.)

LOL at the cow! I think you and Baby Ouchy are the exceptional exception! lol. Ouchy, you definitely go above and beyond in teaching your peanut, which is why she is so well rounded and totally outsmarting us all. Lol. I often see (and know) mothers who use nursing as an excuse to coddle (sp?) their children and to keep them close. It's almost like *some* mother use nursing as a form of enabling... i.e the mother on the youtube. Those kids, as you've mentioned, have limited social skills, and frankly... their IQs don't seem all that...er... spectacular? I mean, BF isn't the only thing that is going to raise your child's IQ.
LOL. Or, you can take my bf's point of view and say BF is a waste and as soon as the kid comes out... stick a steak in its mouth!

^LOL. The steak in baby's mouth and the boob in his mouth. Ahhhhhhh. The chocolate milk discussion our men had at Friendly's comes to mind. LOL!!!!!
On a forum where all women breastfeed, none of them agree with the reasons the mom was doing it for, and none of them use bf'ing for coddling. I think actually, that the woman on the film is the exception.

Oh. They actually give breastmilk to ADULT cancer patients bc cancer cells can't grow in breastmilk! That's pretty cool!

i jsut watched the you tube video that was posted and felt sick. i personally found it disturbing. i would find breast feeding a child past 12 months gross.

I'm anti-the-film, too, but what makes it right at 12 months and then 12 months 1 day so wrong?

Oh. The whole pumping issue. I can't pump to save my ass. I sometimes only get a few drops out.

^They don't say that, though. They usually just give it a name, something short. We have "aaah-aaaah" over here. I called it "Nee-nee!" LOL! They start these names/words VERY early, so it all just melds together naturally.

Oooh. I didn't realize this thread would cause those with fertility issues to get depressed. Have you read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility?" We have several preggos here (or have already had babies) with stage IV endo who became pregnant within a month or two after reading that book. Totally the bible of fertility awareness! Didn't you post that you're like in your early 20's? That's not very old! There is still time! A LOT of time! I'm way older and have worse fertility issues than endo, and now I have a kiddo. It can and does happen!

LMK, this is O.T, but Cherry, Cass, and I are all in our mid/early 20s. We've got advanced Endo (minus Cass who is worse off than I'd say everyone on this board combined. She's so positive, though! And we love her, heh!!) I was told by my Dr on my last visit that 30 is my cut off. I'm 24, graduating in Dec. and refuse to hear those words. My advice? Instead of dwelling on the future and what it *might* bring, because really... Drs cannot predict the future, concentrate on the present. It's MUCH MUCH MUCH easier than thinking "what if" on a daily basis. Just my .2...
Oh, and Ouchy... yesterday when we were at the World of Sea (lol) we stopped by the Dolphin nursery. I thought that'd you'd find it interesting that dolphin's nurse till 18 months!! I definitely think that 18-24 months is totally in the norm for a human baby, as well.

P.S I was reading some of TCOYF at the gym the other day (looking to see if there was anything on swollen ovaries), and some lady looked at me weird! LOL. But seriously, that book is my life.
