Hi All. I just went to the doctor today for a post-op and totally forgot to ask him so many questions! I think my memory must have been altered during surgery, too! Anyway, I left a message for his office. I have been so anxious to drive. My surgery (removal of an ovary through an incision) was on 6/11 and I'm thinking I could probably drive by now. He said the incision looks fine and everything seems to be o.k. Darn, I wish I would have asked him more questions. I also have a stick shift. Anyone else with this kind of surgery driving after 2 weeks and 1 day?

In case anyone else goes through the same surgery in the near future, expect not to drive for at least 3 weeks. I'm headed back to work tomorrow for 1/2 days, too. I have really mixed feelings. Although it will be good to get out of the house for a few hours, I'm worried about slipping into the same old stress pattern of work, again. I know it's not necessarily what caused the endo, but I'm still worried that stress has been a big factor.

I dont htink there is any rule about when you can and cant do things it all depends on how you feel as everyone recovers from this type of surgery diferently. I had bowel surgery via laparotomy and was told to do things when i am ready and comfortable. i was given a 6-8 week minimum recovery period and am thinking i might try driving to the shops today which is short distance from my house.
Maybe you can start with s shorter journey and see how you go?

Fortunately my job is only a few miles away from my home. I did drive and although I find the incision site a little sore, I feel o.k. Worked for 4 hours today, and am feeling pretty good. Just had to have my nap when I got home! Let me know how your shopping trip goes.

The shopping trip did not eventuate! Every day is different, when i feel like i want to go somewhere i cant as i need to be as close to the bathrrom as possible and the cramping and dizzy spells are tough too! my sister suggested cutting a hole in my drivers seat and putting a bucket in there lol!! it might come down to that yet!

Hey, whatever works! Your surgery was a whole lot more difficult than mine. I'm sure your recovery will be much more difficult.

I am anxiously awaiting my laparotomy scheduled for next Tuesday. My doctor said that I should wait three weeks before driving and that I should take six weeks off of work. I have no idea what to expect, but it sounds like the recovery time depends on the individual and I suppose that it depends on how extensive the surgery is. From her recovery thread, it sounds like Cass had extensive surgery. Sorry that you are having to go through such a rough time Cass. It sounds like you are recovering nicely Donnajean, which gives me hope!
