I am a newbie with a lot of questions if anyone can help please do so. I have suffered with Endo for more than 20 yrs. I had a partial Hysto 9 yrs. ago removed cervix and uterus, and last fall had tubes and ovaries out So... I am now still have all the symptoms of Endo again I went to the doc recently and he said I could still have Endo. I did not take any form of HRT after the surgery for fear of it "feeding" the endo and that is why I do not understand how it can still be here. I will see a specialist soon hopefully to get more answers. but until then I am worried . Any help?? Any Answers?? Thank you for your time!!

Hi, Delinda. Sorry that you are having pain again! I know how that goes, just when you think mayyyyyybe it is gone...somehow, the endo always returns!
I have read that in a small percentage of women, even after complete hysterectomy, that the endo may persist. From what I have read, continuous endo after complete hysterectomy sometimes depends on the location of the implants. A lot of endo with intestinal involvement may not respond to withdrawl of hormones. I don't know for sure, but that is just from what I have read. Also, if someone is really over-weight, the fat begins to produce estrogen on its own, which could feed the implants.
I'm anxious to see what your specialist says. Keep us posted!

Also, the implants produce their own estrogen. If your doctor gave you a hysterectomy and then didn't remove the implants, then he basically did nothing for you, because the organs weren't the problem. The only way to be sure a hysterectomy can work is if all implants are excised at the time of the hysterectomy.

I had a hysterectomy 5 months ago for stage IV endo. My cervix was left in because it was "cemented" to my bowels with the endo. About 2.5 months post surgery, the pain was back with a vengence. It was in the ER for the pain that I learned that my doctor left me full of the endo because "it was the worse case she'd ever seen and couldn't even begin to remove it all." That was also when I learned that she believed removing my ovaries would kill off all remaining endo. I've since learned, through my own research, that this is not the case at all. I've been to 3 doctors and they all believe that no ovaries means no endo; despite the severe pain I still suffer from. I have an appointment with yet another doctor next week from a women's hospital; hopefully this one will believe me and do something for me.

My mother had a hysterectomy, then an oophorectomy but for some reason she still seems to swell up like a 4 months pregnant woman around mine and my sister's periods which is pretty bad xXx

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER THEY CAN ALWAYS DO A LAP ON YOU TO CHECK AND SEE FOR SURE WHATS GOING ON,
I HAD A PARTIAL HYST 2 YEARS AGO AND I HAVE HAD 2 MORE SURGERYS MY ENDO ALWAYS GROWS ON MY BLADDER WALL BUT MY DR SAID BOTH TIMES I HAD ALOT OF ADHESIONS
I HOPE YOU GET SOME RELIEFE

Did the doctor at the women's hospital tell you anything helpful?

Hysterectomy is removal of the uterus, also called a "partial hysterectomy." A "complete hysterectomy" includes oophorectomy, or removal of the ovaries.
