I just want to say that rest and light walking are some of the best things you can do. I am almost 5 weeks post-op. I have to say it is really hard not to do the normal things, but well worth taking it easy. A little bit of bleeding post-op is normal. Some don't have any. My doc said as long as I wasn't filling a pad quickly and had no fever or chills it is normal. I didn't have hardly any bleeding after the first couple of days. Then, at about two weeks I started bleeding enough to change a pad every 4 hours or so. The Nurse told me to take it easy for the whole day (that's lying on the sofa on my back all day and evening) while waiting for my Doctor to call the next day. Doc said all that all I described was normal and that it was probably a stitch coming out. She said to expect that anywhere up to 6 weeks post-op. So don't worry too much if you are wiping a little blood or if you are not bleeding. It's all normal. But, of course if you are having concerns, by all means call your doctor. It will ease your mind.
I didn't use a binder, but can see where it could have been helpful for the first few weeks, I didn't like the feeling of my belly jiggling.
For me at 5 weeks now I'm just really annoyed by the swelly belly. I've lost 8 pounds and still cannot wear my "skinny" jeans still have to wear my fattest jeans. Oh-well. Someday, right? I even went to a concert last Tuesday and then lunch with a friend the next day. It was a ton of fun, I was so sore the night of the concert I took a percoset. I was worn out for a couple of days after, but it was worth it. The pain was only that night, the next day I felt pretty good. Don't worry about taking the pain meds. If you have to take pain pills then you are not feeling the pain your body can focus on healing.
Hang in there everyone, heal well and quickly. Take care!

Pamelaj I saw on facebook you were able to go to your sons hockey game:) Good for you! I am so glad you are getting out of the house and doing things. It is great for recovery. Your mom coming and helping you out will be a big lift off your shoulders. I am almost 3 weeks out from surgery and I had to clean my house yesterday nothing was getting done and it was making me sick! I had my mom help one day but that was it and I wish someone would have came over do more but I was happy with just that one day. Cleaning all day yesterday was alot to do in one day but I couldnt live like that anymore and I have felt pretty good. You will be shocked what a week of rest can do for you! Take it easy and let mom take care of you for a little! Thats what moms are for:)

Thanks Keri and yes, i made it through his whole game. Very painfully but i did it. Everytime we scored my husband would grab me or glare at me to stop me from jumping up and down. lol. I definaately overdid it though because when we scored the winning goal, i jumped. Went and seen the doc today and he said he has never seen a patient recover from a hyster so quickly? He took my steri strips off and did an internal. Told me i was healing very quickly although im still having tons loads of pain. He told me ABSOLUTELY no lifting or bending for 24hrs. Thank god for mommies.

Heating pad is NOT working and im only taking Tylenol 3's. Just trying to figure out what i could have done to cause this? I have put laundry away, folded it but didnt do any heaving lifting.

Pamelaj I have started to spot a little today. It is the first site of any bleeding for me I was a little freaked out at first but I came home and laid down. My belly is swollen too. I think you prob didnt do anything to CAUSE it your body is in recovery and will go thru stages. I remembered you saying that you had bleed a little so it helped calm me. Thank you! Resting is the way to recover the right way. It is so hard to do tho trust me I know. If I feel bad one day I take it easy and appreciate the good days! How do you feel now? Its been a few days since the bleeding post did you stop? I found out I also have a kidney stone so I get to deal with that pain here soon. OUCH I would rather have a hysterectomy then a kidney stone any day. They hurt so bad it is only time I beg for medicine that I can not take. LOL my husband just loves me when I have to pass a kidney stone....

Im feeling so-so. I have good days and bad. Today is meteocre. Im not bleeding anymore(thank god). I do find that my body is telling me when i've done enough and when that happens i say say "screw it, im done" and sit down. Im frustrated with not being able to wear my normal pants and even more frustrated that i can't have sex(more in Cherrys thread, rant and rave). I did however go to my sons hockey game and sat through the whole thing, and even clapped and cheered.

Yesterday it was just a little spotting when I went to the bathroom and it was pink. Today it is getting a darker. I have stayed off my feet all day and I am BORED out of my mind! I feel a little pain but I have a high tolerance for pain so who knows to some this may feel like a 10 but I can tolerate it. It maybe the kidney stone too. I see my doc on tuesday so I will wait it out. I will not go to the ER! I do not want to get the flu it is really bad here and the ER is where all the flu patients are going. If I fever or get worse I will call my doc in the morning. Hope you feel better pamelaj. Glad you are getting to go to those hockey games and clap!

Hi Niecsey I had mine done in October and had to have a repair done 8 weeks after I pushed myself too much. ADVICE take it easy and relax. Did you have a full or a partial hysterectomy?

Hi Niecsey...ditto to what Kari said. TAKE IT EASY!!!
You may start to feel ok but listen to your docs, take time to pamper yourself. Thats what recovery is for.
How are you feeling?

I have read through this whole thread, but get confused about who is who and who had what. (I am new.) So has anyone else had a total hysterectomy done with laparoscopy with a vaginal removel? How quickly did you recover? Can I expect to return to work in a week?
How can they get all the endo without opening me wide up? I also have a "suspicious" mass on my right ovary that the docs believe may be ovarain cancer and I can't fathom how they can get it all, do the washings and stains, and get all the endo, that I know is there and probably dispersed thoughtout my abdomen, without opening me up.
Curious as to how everyone recovered. I know what to expect from a laparotomy as I had one 8 years ago to remove a large endometrial tumor that engulfed my left ovary and fallopian tube.
Any thoughts you can share are greatly appreciated!

If your doc suggests HRT, consider reading one of the books about menopause by Dr. John Lee. Might not be tailered to endo specifically (as there are certain cautions with HRT and endo), but might give you a good perspective on options.
