Has anybody success with a full hysterectomy (ovaries and uterus) as treatment for endo. All the Ob/Gyn's I see, say they have tried the measures that they know and all they can offer is a hysterectomy. I know people who have had their ovaries left have problems return. I don't know if I should give up or try something new. We have military insurance, so that is a problem we have been having with seeing Dr.Redwine in Oregon and others like him. I need help. Thank you in advance for any kind of advice. You can email me at clintlynette@msn.com if you would like.

Lynette - My wife just had a hysterectomy in December as a result of many years of pain from stage 4 endo. We went to Dr. Albee in Atlanta and he was awesome. He specializes in surgeries for endo and we would highly recommend him. We hoped to keep maybe one side of her tubes and ovaries but when he started the surgery he realized just how bad it was so we made the decision to do the hysterectomy. She is healing up from the surgery and she feels great! We were sad to have to do the hysterectomy but it is worth it for her to be pain free. So to answer your question - yes, she is having success. Hope that helps! By the way here is the doc's site: www.centerforendo.com

Thank you for your response. That makes me feel better. It is especially great to hear it coming from the husband. I am ready to be pain free. Again, thank you for your reassurance. Lynette

I am 30 and scheduled for a hysterectomy on Jan. 13th. There is so much infofor and against different treatments that I don't know if I'm doing the right thing. My ovaries will be removed but I read that the endo can come back. What do I do?

I had my hysterectomy and am already feeling better. I have to make sure I don't do too much, though. I just feel so much better, that I think I can actually catch up on work I have been putting off. I think it was the right decision for me. Time will tell. Lynette

I also had my hysterectomy 2 months ago and I feel great. No pain at all! It was the hardest decision in my life to go ahead with it,but I was in so much pain all the time,I just wanted it over with.It turns out the endo had wrapped itself all around my bowel, almost making it unusable.(I had terrible constipation previously)The doctor said if I had waited much longer that I would be wearing a colonoscophy bag for the rest of my life! I feel so lucky. So not only do I have more energy,no pain, but now I can actually go to the bathroom everyday. That sounds gross, but I know alot of you suffer from constipation too. Dont wait to long to take care of it like I did. I suffered for 10 years. Now I can get back to my life.If you need help plz email me at chereepennell@yahoo.com

I had a hysterectomy on 1/9/06 and while the majority of my pain is gone, they were unable to remove my cervix because it was "cemented" to the bowel with the endo. I am now still battling severe pain with bowel movements. I'm seeing a colo-rectal surgeon, had a colonoscopy which showed nothing internal, and may be facing another surgery and a colostemy bag. My new battle is with my doctor in trying to keep getting pain medication, as they are worried about dependency/tolerance/constipation associated with narcotics. I'm waiting for an appt with a pain clinic. I thought I'd be pain free after my surgery, but no such luck. My advice to you is do your research, be comfortable with and confident in your doctor and I wish you the best of luck!! Katie

I am now 11 weeks post-op from total hysterectomy and ovary removal. I still feel great. My husband says he got his old wife back. I am only 27 years old. I do have 1 child that I was blessed with. If we want more, we can always adopt. There are so many children out there who need a good home. With adoption, you don't have to go through the physical pain of delivery. We have been through enough pain with the endo. Good luck Lynette

Just wanted to let everyone know that I am going into surgery for a total hysterectomy on April 20 which is this Thursday. I am scared to death as to how this is going to affect me after the surgery. I have no children and I am only 26 years old. The pain that I have right now is the worst that it has ever been. I have had a total of 5 laps and many different drugs...I cannot do this anymore. So please keep me in mind on Thursday and if anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I had quite a bit of pain after surgery. As long as I didn't move and did absolutely nothing, I didn't hurt as bad. But I could hardly change positions for awhile. I was able to move around and felt better after almost 2 weeks. My suggestions are to relax, find some good movies, and just sleep. Things will get better. Lynette

Thanks to all of you for your support and suggestions....This has been a very trying time for me....Since the pain of the surgery has decreased I have had more time to just sit and think and that is not always a good thing....I am now faced to deal with reality and it is not easy....I have to overcome the idea of never having children and the emotional roller coaster has been hell....My fiance is very supportive but I feel so alone in this as he has three wonderful children from his previous marriage...Did anyone else experience mood swings to the extent that one minute you are crying the next laughing and then mad at the world or is it just me? My doc has me on estrogen patches right now and we just increased the dose due to hot flashes and night sweats and the oh so wonderful mood swings...I cannot wait to get back to working and not being in the house all the time...With only one income it is very difficult to do anything....Anyone have any suggestions on how to ease the feelings and is it normal...I greatly appreciate the advice...I have had a cat since about a month before my surgery and she is my "baby" now and we just got a kitten so that helps me feel kind of like a mommy....Have a good day to you all.........Andie
