The day i was given my diagnosis, my gynae put me straight on a course of Prostap GnRH, an injection every 3 months. My last was in August so it wears off in a fortnight. i see my gynae again in December just before Christmas. I don't know what to expect, what will happen when my body goes back to normal cycles. I don't really know what should have happened while i was on this mini menopause cos i am still in pain despite my periods having stopped. I suspect adhesions but i cant verify this, only going on what I feel. what worries me is since the lap (in Feb, i saw my gynae in may) i had a few very heavy periods, and when I first had my injection i continued bleeding on what turned into a 6 week period. i am what I would say is stage one going on the lap report, but i have pain on my lower left which spreads up and out with movement, or sometimes for no apparent reason. My hot flashes aren't too great, nor my mood swings. and the spottiness is horrible! The good thing i can say is I've had a rest from menstruating, without being worried about the nightmare withdrawal bleed I got from back to back pill taking. i also had a lot of crying and curling up, and having to suddenly 'dump' the contents of my bladder and bowel when the pain was very bad. This all ceased with my periods but the pain only changed it didn't go away. All I can say is the rest from bleeding was good, but there was still pain, one that came to the forefront once the periods stopped. And the side effects despite taking HRT weren't worth it. Here I go waffling again. What else had everyone experienced when being treated with injections and what happened when the injections stopped? Would really appreciate some info thank you x

How long does it usually take for your periods to start again after a hormone treatment has finished? I was on a treatment called Prostap 3, which was 2 injections over the course of 6 months... it is similar to a lot of GnRH treatments I think. (Mini menopause types like lupron...) It's just that I finished in November by my calculation, but there is no sign of a period. Except I'm in a helluva lot of pain (which may not even be endo) My side effects are wearing off like spots, moodiness and fluffy brain, and whenever I came off the pill for a break from the hormones, my periods would start back up straight away. Whenever I've had a long gap between periods ( taking bc pill 3 packs back to back) I've paid for it later with very heavy, long bleeding and a lot of pain, so I'm worried about my first period after the treatment anyway! Appreciate your input xx

Cherry. I received my last injection (of 6 total) in October and I have yet to get a period. Actually I went in to see my doctor about it this week because according to him I missed my period and he wanted to rule out pregnancy. Which by the way pregnancy would not be the worst thing to me, since I hope to get pregnant soon. Anyway he did some bloodwork to check my hormone levels. He called me and said NO pregnancy and that hormone levels were okay, at this point he thinks that it may be the fibroid that was found in November that could be causing the "missed " period. So lucky me I get to go have another ultrasound to see what's going on. I too am afraid of when I finally get my period, I don't think I could stand a long and heavy cycle.

I'm sorry you weren't pregnant, I guess that would have been a really nice surprise after all that! I'm having an ultrasound on tuesday on my bladder and kidneys. I had a water infection once a while ago and the pain was very different so I have a big feeling it isn't that. The pain in my kidneys stopped a while ago after my last injection but I understand them checking everything if they think its a UTI. I am getting more worried the longer I go without a period and the longer the pain goes on. Good luck with that Diana xx

okay, i am not sure about how long 'til you get your period after stopping the treatment. i am still on it, but i did take myself off the add-back therapy of norethindrone and estradiol. it only took five days for cramps and spotting to start. wish i had more info. for you but i got another month to go.
best wishes

Thanks. I got my period last tuesday (thank god cos I even got the ultrasonographer to check for a pregnancy!), it's been as hellish as ever so either i haven't got endo pains, or the treatment didn't work. My scans were clear and I'm all healthy from kidney to urethra, so my doc is referring me back to the gynaecology dept, but not that consultant I had last year. My 4th gynae and still not sure exactly what is happening! Hope yours gets back to normal quickly norma, think my body likes to blow everything out of proportion... like me! x

I definitly would love to know how long after 6 months of monthly injections would it take for your period to come back and how long its lasts for.

Hi angea, my period took about 3 months or so to come back, it was a normal length period too. It will vary though, I'm a little late getting my second injection this time around so I expect I will have a bleed soon judging by the pain I've had!

Posted by member Jillson in another thread I tried searching all the Lupron posts but there were so many to read. My last shot of Lupron was end of July and it lasts 3 months. SO I am just wondering when other people started their first period again after it wore off? How was it and did it come back regular. I was about every 30 days before just wondering. Sorry id this is a duplicate question. Thanks. Jill

Hi Jillson, my period took a couple of months to get back to menstruation but it will depend on a few things like the type of and how you react to it. Cycle was normal length.

Well I'm binning this one off early, I simply can't cope. It's come back all too easily how I felt like I was going out of my mind last year, cos it's happening again. Plus uni is not happening when I get like this. I'm pinning all my hopes on the mirena now, wish me luck

good move cherry. You need to do what is right for you. i know exactly how you are feeling. im getting really emotional lately and my mood swings are horrible. my head is a mess. i want to laugh and cry all at the same time. im menat to be on it until i plan on starting a family and at the moment thats only a 50% chance. im going to weigh up my options soon though, its very tough to be on. congrats on ur decision though and good luck with the mirena... i have to stop typing as i have to keep reading this post over and over to remember what i was trying to say! i need to stop the drug too!!

Thanks guys, don't mean to sound all doom and gloom, but Cass will tell you, the stuff makes you think like that. I don't what the hell could be an option if the Mirena goes wrong, fingers crossed it's been ok so far. Cass, you know you have my support, promise you'll ask your doc about all the other options. This stuff, if it's bad for you, it's just horrific. If it's not bad, I'm happy for you. But you never know until you try. The only thing I can suggest is think about how the pill affected you. There is no way I'm going back on it, I don't react well to it at all. Maybe I'm just a control freak but I don't like monkeys stealing my mind
