Has anyone had any success using Lo/Ovral BC? Can this be taken continuously?

I was on Lo/Ovral continuously for over a year. I quit it, because it was the worst thing I ever did to my body. It dried me out like crazy--put me in a fake menopause, and I even became older-looking (My face was dried out as well as my nails.).
Lo/Ovral has a very strong progestin, and it was wayyyy too strong for my body, I guess, though every person is different, so you might not have the problems I did.
It also caused cysts on my scalp and horrrrrrrrrrible headaches that lasted for days.
Just be prepared!!!! Oh.. and I had breakthrough bleeding and wound up having to double-up on pills a number of times throughout the month.
Good luck. Keep us posted.

I had taken this for two weeks before I was diagnosed just for BC purposes but I stopped taking it because it was making my pelvic pain worse. I have read that most treatments cause the symptoms to get worse before they get better. If that is true then I wish I would have known then what I know now...I would have kept taking them to see if they helped. I don't remember having any problems as far as side effects go other than being a little depressed but I rarely read of anyone being on it for endo or how successful it is. I'm dying for relief.

If that is true then I wish I would have known then what I know now...I would have kept taking them to see if they helped. My symptoms actually got BETTER before they got WORSE. I was raving about Lo/Ovral in the beginning. ...That was before I knew what it was doing to my body. Oh. and sex quit hurting about 99% once I quit taking the pill. I was on Lo/Ovral for treatment of endo.

Check out this link. www.wdxcyber.com/ncontr13.htm If you scroll near the bottom of the page, you'll find a chart w/ recommended b.c. pills according to the symptom. The very last category says, "Endometriosis or endometriosis prevention." You'll find that Lo/Ovral is listed among the others.

I was looking at the side effect chart and I am shocked to see ortho-cyclen under suggestions for depression/moodiness/acne side effects. I was given this pill when I was 21 and after 4 days I turned into a psycho angry cry baby with the worst acne breakout I had ever had in my life. I remember scaring my boyfriend because I was so crazy. I guess it just proves how different all of our bodies are in regards to tolerance of meds. I swear I was so out of control I should have been in a straight jacket with that stuff.
Oh, and I do remember that other than mild depression with the Lo/Ovral my breasts were really sore. Other than the symptoms getting worse that was it. I really hope this works for me if I stick with it. I book marked the site - thanks for sharing.

Oh, and I do remember that other than mild depression with the Lo/Ovral my breasts were really sore. I forgot about that!!! That was actually the reason I finally quit taking it! Only then did I realize what it had done to me. I didn't get the reallly bad breast tenderness/fibrocystic lumps until the last couple months...I guess I was on it for about 14 months.

I was looking at the side effect chart and I am shocked to see ortho-cyclen under suggestions for depression/moodiness/acne side effects. Ortho-cyclen was also one of the many I have been on. I think it is listed under depression/moodiness because it is a monophasic pill (all the same estrogen/progestin content for the whole month). As far as the acne, I only really had acne problems w/ the Lo/Ovral. The ortho-cyclen didn't give me acne or cause mood problems for me, but it WAS the first pill I experienced breakthrough bleeding on!

Yeah the breast soreness was terrible, but way more tolerable than the endo. I can deal with that if it takes the rest of the symptoms away. I start this drug again on Sunday again so I will see how it goes! I'm crossing my fingers!

That's how I felt. I thought I could cope. It got to hurt worse than the endo the last 2 months of Lo/Ovral for me...I don't know why that happened after all those months I had already been on it w/out that symptom! I had what felt to me like rocks in my breasts! It was crazy. Way worse than the breast tenderness I had w/ Ortho Tri-Cyclen, which I thought was bad at the time! Good luck! Fingers crossed for you, too!

OH!!!! Your doc. might actually have an easier time finding endometriosis if you're not on the pill, as the progestin shrinks the implants.
