Hey everyone, So I went to the doc yesterday and she said that Lupron was my only answer. Okay let me back up a little. Last year I started having severe pain so I went to the doc. They did an ultrasound and found both ovaries filled with cysts. They also found pre-cancerous cells on my cervix. So in for surgery I went. This included a laproscopy, a hystroscopy, a d&c and laser removal of the pre-cancerous cells. They put me on birth control treatment and said this will solve my problem and keep it from coming back well I guess when you aren't real informed you tend to believe them. So I spent about 4 months after the surgery feeling great. Then the problems started coming on and they kept getting worse and worse. I moved to a new state so I couldn't go back to my doctor. In Feb I went to an OBGYN here and he told me it was all in my head. I went home feeling more miserable than ever know that it wasn't in my head. Finally in June I went to a family practitioner and figured he could direct me to who I should see. So he sent me to this lady that is supposed to be on of the best in the area for treating Endo, of course that meant a two month wait. Finally yesterday I got into her and she said since I didn't respond to the birth control treatment (and we tried three different kinds in that year) that I needed to go on Lupron with Add-Back therapy. I told her that I needed to go home and do some research on this first. I am really terrified to be on any kind of hormone meds especially one that has the side effects listed with this. Also I haven't had kids yet and want them more than anything and am not sure how that would work with this kind of treatment. I am more depressed than ever right now. I even told my fiance to take me to the ER last night because I was going to commit myself. The pain is so bad I don't want to get up in the mornings, but are the side effects of the Lupron going to make that any better. I've heard that getting pregnant is supposed to help the problems go away, but is this only while you are pregnant or does it last longer. And that is if I can even get pregnant in this state. I guess I'm not really looking for an answer of any sort, I am just looking for some support. Thank you everyone for listening to me Julie

I have lost 9lbs and really dun want to have these injections..over the last two years i have gone from 9 stones to 11 stones 10lbs.. i dun even eat the wrong kind of food..my hormones are all over the place and my metabolism @ it's lowest ! Having read the reviews..i dun think i can commit myself to this DRUG...i already suffer with depression and am scared wot these injections might do to me. The consultant i saw was not helpful..and treated me just like a another STAT not a woman who has just lost an ovary and tube..after TTC for 8 years and a sufferer of endo. ! I've had it with the meds and docs !!

I just had a lap/hysteroscopy/d&c on tuesday. My re said I had severe endo. He did not give a number but I am guessing from the endomretioma's and adhesions everyhere it would be stage 4. He wants me to do 3 months of lupron and then try naturally after that. I'm not sure what I should do as I was reading the the s/e can be awful as I already get night sweats and some hot flashes since I have high fsh. Does the lupron calm down the endo? Has anyone had success with this?

I had Prostap, another GnRH with the same effects as Lupron. In my case, I was found to have severe endo after the treatment, but cos it pauses oestrogen production in the body, it is supposed to give the endo a chance to die back because there is nothing to 'feed' it. I am on another GnRH to preserve my clean slate since I had most of my endo excised, much as I swore never to try it again I'm just desperate not to let the endo progress. Because the GnRH action is so total, I have good faith that it'll be beneficial for me this time around. My doctor has given me the choice to do it for 2 months (til I get a Mirena fitted) or for 6 months so that the treatments overlap and I get the benefit of both. I'm not sure yet. I wouldn't worry too much about side effects just yet, a few of us have been on it and have been completely unaffected. I'm personally not too bothered by the hot flushes and night sweats. I've found that changing my diet and taking epo has almost obliterated them

Far as I'm concerned those symptoms are the side effects from hell haha. I followed a pattern similar to Cass last year. My spots came on after 3 months and haven't ever wuite gone. This time, with Gonapeptyl, I had headaches, change of appetite and hot flushes start within 2 weeks, my skins is also up and down right now. Moodiness was immediate, as was the problem with memory and concentration.

Does anyone have arthritis like side effects with this? I've been on these shots since January, have had horrid side effects, and now I'm getting joint pain- it's not constant, but it's starting to become annoying. I have one more three month shot in October, and then I'm NEVER doing this again if I can help it. I just don't think I should feel this old at 24! If anyone has any joint achiness, if you could let me know your experience, I'd appreciate it.

I have endo. and I went to my post-op on Wednesday and my doctor is going to start the LUPRON treatment on me? Does anybody's insurance cover it, cause I was reading online about insurance not covering drugs that's injected or something like that. I have Aetna Insurance with my job and I'm just worried if they're not going to cover it or not. But, also I was going to get BCBS as a family health plan for me and my son, so I'm just worried about insurance and prices!! Can anyone help me please.... Toodles, Charm

Hi, mzcharm. My friend had Aetna, and they covered it for her 2 years ago. You can probably go to your insurance's drug company's website and check the formulary to see if it is covered. I have pacificare. Let me check mine to see if Lupron is covered.

I found Synarel on mine, which is also in the same class as Lupron but is a nasal spray. I believe my insurance would have to cover the Lupron if my doctor calls for authorization, though.

No prob. I really hope they cover it. Can you call your insurance tomorrow to ask? I did that with my diabetic test strips to find out whether or not they were covered. I bet you can do that w/ Lupron and also to find out if it's not, how you go about getting it covered. Aetna is one of the top 2 best insurance companies in the U.S., so I bet you have a good chance. Also, I know PacifiCare (the other in the top 2 ) has a non-formulary policy where if it's not covered, you just pay a higher fee for the prescription. I think my non-formulary payment is $50.00.

Yah. Lupron is the shot. I am not aware of a pill version. There's the shot and then there is Synarel, the nasal spray. One of our members, Cass, is currently on it.
