Hi everyone ! I was trying to find out how common the add back therapy is if you are receiving the Lupron Injection ? And does anyone know if the add back helps ? I have read all about it on the internet and it seems to be recommended with the Luporn. I am supposed to get my 1st round of Luporn on Friday and when I asked if I would be getting the add back therapy as well - the nurse giving the injection had no idea what I was talking about. I had to go on line and tell her what the medication was and she said she would ask the doctor but she had never heard of it.
Thanks

I ahve heard that it is recommended to do add back therapy, take calcium supplements, and do weight-bearing exercises in order to maintain your bone density while taking Lupron; however I have also heard of people who have suffered serious bone loss even while doing all three. If you are going to take Lupron you certainly should look into the add-back therapy. In fact, maybe you should ask your doctor point blank what to do to reduce your chances of bone loss. This is the most serious side effect from Lupron and for some reason most doctors don't bother telling their patients about it.

I received a 3-month injection of Lupron and the first week I felt like I wanted to die. So starting my second week they gave me add back, which is just a low dose of estrogen, but in my case it didn't help, I still felt just awful. But I've heard it helps some people. I did continue to take the add back through the frist two months of the Lupron but never felt any better. I've had some bad side effects with Lupron, as do many people. But add back is such a low dose it's not going to hurt you. If you have decided to definitely get the Luron injection, I would recommend to start add back on the day you start your shot, that might give you the best chance.
