I've been suffering for about 8 years. Yesterday the pain was so severe, and I took 30 ibuprofen (200 mg each) within an hour to relieve pain, later I got stomach pain.
My pain is always related to intestines. I feel like really my bowel is obstructed or something, so nothing can pass. I can't eat and have to take laxatives, full of gases, stool is so loose. This symptom always starts from my period, and if it is bad, it lasts exactly 2 weeks, then no problem at all !!
Other than this, everything is normal. My period is very regular, no excessive bleeding. I got countless of ultrasound and bowel exam, but everything is normal. I went to OB/GYN specialist, she listened to my story and told me my symptom didn't look like typical endo but she said i needed lap to confirm anyway. Only thing she could see was that my uterus is retroverted.
So has anybody had similar symptom like me? This is so killing me, and I can't work at least 3 days per month because of this pain, and after that pain is tolerable but my bowel stays messed up to 2 weeks.
Please tell me if you have similar symptoms or suggestions. Thanks so much for reading.

FIRST---TAKING THAT MUCH IBUPROFEN IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!!!!!
No one can tell you whether or not you have endo without doing a laparoscopy.
My suggestion: TELL YOUR DOCTOR THAT YOU TOOK THAT MUCH MEDICINE AND SEE WHAT YOUR DOC SAYS!

30 Ibuprofen?!?!?! your lucky you didnt need your stomach pumped! You should NOT take over 8 in a 24 hr period.. or maybe its 12? i dont know, but 30!!!! Not good at all! You should ask your doctor for motrin 600 or 800 until they figure out what is causing your pain. Taking that much ibuprofen will make any ones stomach and intestines hurt! so that was probably the reason for your stomach pain. Try looking around on the alternative medicines board to search for better pain relief ideas. =-)

i concur, 30 ibuprofen, reeaaally bad!!!!!!!
At the very least take panadol with it instead of taking more ibuprofen, the 2 meds work well together, but never ever take more than a recommended dose.
If u are in that much pain, see your doctor, there is much stronger pain relief out there that will do the job much better.

I agree with the rest of the ladies. Ibuprofen is very hard on your stomach lining. Taking that much could lead to stomach ulcers as well as an accidental overdose. So please don't do that again and see your doctor about some stronger pain relief and take It the way the doctor told you to!!!!! Take care of yourself. Rin

I too was taking that many ibuprofen in that short of an amount of time. As far as I know, I did not suffer any damage other than the stomach ache that you talked about. I also though did not experience much, if any, pain relief either. This was the only thing I was told to do, by my various doctors, to manage my pain (for 15 years). I have never been prescribed narcotics. I was given motrin and naproxen, neither of which my stomach could handle. I had to take advil, one or two at a time every 20 minutes to an hour, or so. Otherwise I would throw up. Taking 30 advil over 24 hours is not that different from taking two motrin every 4-6. Motrin is 800 ml, advil is 200. Taking it all in one hour, I don't know. I know my body can take a beating.
That being said, I realized with the help of the women on this message board that taking that much of any drug that isn't working is silly.
I have been seeing a Body Psychotherapist (which is in a different thread) who has helped me to let go of the "security blanket" of taking pills (that don't work).
I have gone the alternative route (and I won't repeat here what I have written in other threads) and it works so much better than advil.
My doctor suggested that I take two advil in the morning and two at night for anti-inflammatory purposes. I suggest the liqui-gels, they don't hurt my stomach.
They best thing I have ever learned in my life was here, through this board, and that is the how to unlearn what doctors have told me my whole life - that there is nothing I can do. (and that there is nothing wrong with me! I too was told the pain was from a retroverted or a tipped uterus. I never thought they knew what they were talking about.) My pain is very much tied in with my intestines and bladder - because there is endo there!
There are so many different things that work for different women. There is a way to manage pain - search through the alternative treatments, manage pain without drugs, and diet and nutrition threads. They have been invaluable to me. Last month, I had minimal pain - the first time in my life. And I only took four ibuprofen! HEALING IS POSSIBLE!
Good luck...

Well said Camille, there are other solutions for pain.
Its still unfortunate though that there are so many stupid doctors out there unwilling to prescribe decent pain relief.
I too have learnt to work through the pain without taking drugs, and often i can (something im proud of, which i know is silly), but unfortunately there are always times that nothing else i do will work, and i give in, i always feel weak when i do (which is also silly), and to be honest i am not sure it is necessarily when the pain is at its worst, its when i can handle it the least. I figure if ive broken down crying from it (or am wanting to) thats probs a good sign to take the drugs.
It is good in those situations to have a strong pain reliever, ive only found one thing that works, tramadol, and to me its a blessing on the rare occasions i use it, it gives me a break, a much needed one. If i didnt have that to turn to, i think i would have gone crazy by now, as much as i hate taking it, and as rare as those occasions are, i dont think i could ever get rid of my security blanket, but admire those that can.
Well done Camille, its wonderful that you have gotten your pain to a minimum.

I think the worst symptom of this disease is the denial that we learn from our doctors and the weakness we feel as a result of the rest of the world not knowing, or not understanding. It isn't silly to be proud of ourselves when we don't have to take massive amounts of drugs and we aren't weak when we do! But that is exactly how I feel every month! And we are taught this reliance on doctors and diagnoses when it is as simple as, pain is an indication that something is wrong. Shamonne, having to take 30 ibu is not normal, and it took me 15 years and an operation to prove that to myself. But rather than silly and weak, we are probably incredibly strong and resilient! I used to say if men could experience this for just one hour...but now that I know that our pain is not normal, I say, if non-Endo sufferers could experience this pain for just one hour...
Because of the recurring (or constant) nature of this pain I (and probably many of us) have become incredibly immune to pain and I would be willing to bet we take off less time from work and life than this pain actually warrants!
