We talk about lots of pain medications on this site, but I don't always know what they are. I'm hoping we can put together a list of what's what. To start with, I know of:
Panadol = Paracetamol 500mg
(I'm assuming Tylenol is the same)
Panadeine = Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine Phosphate 8mg
Nurofen = Ibuprofen 200mg
(I'm assuming Advil is the same)
Nurofen Plus = Ibuprofen 200mg and Codeine Phosphate 12.8mg
Codis = Aspirin 500mg and Codeine Phosphate 8mg
PRESCRIPTION PAIN KILLERS:
Panadeine Forte = Paracetamol 500mg and Codeine Phosphate 30mg
Tramadol = Tramadol Hydrochloride (various dosages)
MY POST-LAP PRESCRIPTION PAIN KILLERS:
Di-gesic = Dextropropoxyphene Hydrochloride 32.5mg and Paracetamol 325mg
Diclohexal = Diclofenac 50mg (anti-inflammatory)
-----------------
By the way, the following link is interesting in terms of pain killers. I have copy/pasted the opening paragraph beneath the link.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analgesic
"An analgesic (colloquially known as a painkiller) is any member of the diverse group of drugs used to relieve pain (achieve analgesia). This derives from Greek an-, "without", and -algia, "pain". Analgesic drugs act in various ways on the peripheral and central nervous system; they include paracetamol (acetaminophen), the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as the salicylates, narcotic drugs such as morphine, synthetic drugs with narcotic properties such as tramadol, and various others. Some other classes of drugs not normally considered analgesics are used to treat neuropathic pain syndromes; these include tricyclic antidepressants and anticonvulsants."
