Hi everyone...I just posted my intro so I hope you don't mind me jumping right in.
I'm 41 (in a week or so) and have 3 kids - all c-sections. My periods have been "weird" for the past 3 years but I have only narrowed it down specifically for the last year because prior to that I was nursing (nursed ds until he was almost 3) and we all know how that can affect periods.
So, for the past year my periods have been heavier, lasted7-9 days - didn't usually stop until right before I ovulated which brought it's own troubles (very heavy d/c....sorry if tmi). Then I would be in pain for days with that and seem to have some relief for a few days before it all started over again.
Oh, and did I mention NO libido (nada, zip)?
So, after not getting anywhere with my ob/gyn of 12 years - I found an AWESOME specialist in Atlanta and I think he might be on to something. He truly listens and does not make you feel hurried OR crazy! Score!
I went for my first appt. with him last week and he did a sonogram (internal and external) and was concerned about my uterus - said it was VERY large (I had a tubal after my 3rd child was born btw) and did a biopsy right then and there. Tests came back fine - whew! He also said my uterus seemed to be pulled into an "L" shape and squashing my bladder. This led him to think adhesions. The exam was VERY painful. I asked him if what he was doing wouldn't hurt most people and he said no.
After the exam he met with me in the conference room and said he suspects adhesions AND endo. He gave me a hormone therapy shot in the hopes that it would help and set me up to come back in a month.
WELL.....after the exam my pain became HORRIBLE. I'm going back to see him on Friday. I guess I'm wondering what he saw or what I said that leads him to suspect endo. I know I should have asked, and probably did but was so overwhelmed I forgot the answer already! I was there for over 4 hours! I began to have horrible pain in my legs, pelvic cramps, shooting pain in right ovary....all after the exam.
I kind of wondered if it wasn't just from the painful exam...I just don't know and feel very lost and confused. Can anyone here say anything that might clear any of this up for me? Sorry to have droned on for so long.....TIA....DN
