Hi, I am about to have a diagnostic laparoscopy and am anxious about what they might find. I have suffered for approximately 12 years or longer with many symptoms of Endometriosis. I suffer monthly from migraines which always last 3 days and seem to be cyclicle. I have swollen abdomen, with constant period pains and I have also experienced bleeding from my back passage, and I mean a lot each time. long with this, I suffer with sever back pain, which has previously been diagnosed as Sacroiliitis, I believe this to be an incorrect diagnosis. Can anyone advise me of what I can expect? I know everyone is different, but this is new to me and I am not sure why to expect. Thank you.

Did you have the lap yet? If so, what were the results?
Without knowing that much about you, it's hard to say what the experience will truly be like though. Have you had kids before? It's not as painful as that.
My last two laps were for appendix and then gall bladder 6-8 weeks later. The highlights:
* Anti-anxiety meds before I was wheeled in calmed me down. * Once on the table the anesthesiologist said there would be a huge pain in my right arm as he administered the meds, and as he did so they put a mask on my face. That arm pain really sucked for the split second I felt it! * Next thing I remember was waking up in recovery with a big plastic bubble wrapped around me. What looked like a dryer hose blowing hot air into it. Nice and warm. * After some time in recovery in and out of lucidity, they gave me crackers and juice. Mouth and throat were so dry I couldn't chew or swallow a bite. The cracker just rolled into a little hard ball and I had to disintegrate it with the juice to get it down. * After a couple hours my husband pulled the truck up to the doors and they wheeled me out so I could go home. * Was sent home with Rx for hydrocodone (Vicodin) and some promethazine for nausea. I think they also gave me docusate to soften stools (effect of the Vicodin). * Hurt to get out of bed the first few days, mostly the turning over. And had to get out of bed slowly or else I would get very dizzy. * The only thing about the stitches was that the belly button ones stung the longest. Eventually, after a couple weeks, the sticky tape they put over the incision sites fell off and that was that. * There was some lingering right shoulder pain from the anesthesia but it went away in less than a week.
Even if you already had the surgery I hope you find this helpful. Feel free to ask anything. I've got another lap coming up on Dec 15 for hyster so all this stuff will be happening to me again shortly!
Take care, Tab

PS: I have adenomyosis and happened to be writing this in the middle of one of my notorious migraines, which only started appearing when my cycle pain escalated a few yrs back. I think they are related but there's nothing to support that.

Thanks for your reply, I too have my lap on 15th dec. I have suffered with many of the symptoms of endo for such a long time, but I have never really pushed for my doctor to check things out because I have always just put up with it. My sister has stage 4 endo and has a stoma bag which is irreversible, this is because during surgery her bowel was perforated accidentally. My mum died of ovarian cancer 4 years ago, she was only 61 years old. I began to realise my symptoms were not only similar to endo but also to the cancer my mum died from. This made me go to the doctors, who took my problems seriously and pushed me through for a fast track ultra scan and took blood tests. The good news was that there was no sign of ovarian cancer, but the scan showed several cysts on both of my ovaries. About 8 years ago I struggled with sever back pain, the usual kind, but this time so painful I couldn't cope with it. The hospital admitted me and finally decided I had Sacroiliitis, a condition which means the tendons at the sacroiliac joint were swollen. I still get this pain, not so sever as this particular time, but still none the less painful. I don't believe it is sacroiliitis, I think it is the cysts on my ovaries giving me pain, or indeed, the endo. The bleeding from my back passage does not happen all the time, but when it does it is quite bad. I have the coil fitted, so should not experience bleeding, though I do often find quite a lot of brown coloured discharge. I have seen blood as well. On top of this, at times, my skin and parts of my body hurt to the touch. My breasts always hurt, but sometimes even the skin on my cheeks feel very tender. I looked this up online and wonder if I might suffer from fibromyalgia. I am afraid of turning into a hypochondriac, to read what I have written here might make someone think that, so often I don't say anything to anyone else. At the time of writing this, I have pain in my lower left back, like an ache, but with a stabbing pain. It seems to be affecting my left leg, about the groin area and down to the thigh. Is this normal or could it be something else? Thank you for listening, I don't know who else to ask. X

Welcome! Have you already had your pre op? Ask the doctor if they would excise endo on non gyn areas and be willing to take out your appendix (if you still have it). I would ask the doctor where they are going to look during the surgery. Make sure that they look in places outside the regular gyn areas since endo on non gyn areas caused me the most pain. Make sure they look at your appendix, gallbladder, bowels, and even up to your diaphragm if possible.
Endo and ahesions causes me pain in my thighs and groin. There could be adhesions that are causing your organs or muscles to pull in different ways making the pain go to your back and legs. I have painful BMs and constipation too. There has been endo on my bowels, so I had a couple resections, but I am still dealing with the same issues.
Does your surgeon excise endo?

Hi, I really don't know what will happen, my pre-op is on 1st December and I really don't know what to expect. I will ask at the doctor who sees me what they will be doing, to be honest, I am a little worried about what they will find. I am scheduled to get there for midday, so I will be fretting for hours before the lap. I'm not afraid of pain, but the symptoms have been going on for so long, I think it's been with me for a while. I read somewhere that endo can travel to your lungs and brain, could that he the cause of the migraines I suffer from? How would that be diagnosed? What's would they do about it? I feel like I am asking some really outrageous questions, I'm embarrassed.

Thank you, everyone's advice is valuable. Realising that I'm not a hypochondriac is a massive help. I will keep you updated with the results from my lap.
