Hey all,
I'm new to your board. I have a question about endo, diet, and nut and shellfish allergies.
I've read up a bit while I was awaiting approval on your endo diet recommendations and while it sounds very cool, it also seems like it could be challenging for someone with my limitations. I was wondering if anyone could help who has been through this or done the workarounds? I have a tree nut allergy but also must avoid peanuts. I have to avoid any "may contain", "shared facility" or "processed with" labeled foods (which means a whole lot of everything - including whole foods). Flare ups are bad for my endo and I want to keep things under control but I also think there could be a lot of good in this diet.
I already eat pretty healthy. I don't eat a lot of processed anything due to my own limitations, I rarely eat sweets anymore (though I love them) since post-dx everything has been off-limits due to x-contamination. If I have sweets, I probably baked them or got them from a gluten free, nut free bakery somewhat local to here. I try to avoid too many carbs due to a high-protein diet which helps with my migraines. I eat a lot of locally-sourced eggs and egg whites, yogurt, and dairy more generally (which I know is not great for this diet). That's what I get the bulk of my protein from. Meat is something I eat more sparingly because my body doesn't seem to like eating it more than 5 or so times a week since I returned from Africa where I had meat maybe 4 times a week. I have tried adjusting but, really, I was my healthiest when I ate a lot of greens and dairy rather than meat. Any other ideas about protein that are non-bean-laden? I am not a huge fan of beans at all and will just choose not to eat them 9 times out of 10. That's why dairy has met those needs so well.
I can't use fish oil or eat a lot of seeds and nuts because of cross-contamination of sources. Finding oatmeal is hard enough. Finding non-contaminated seeds is really hard for me right now. I hear chia seeds are good but I have yet to find a "safe" provider. Any ideas about "safe" places to find whole foods would be greatly appreciated.
