Hi,
I had my first lap in Oct and I was diagnosed with stage 3 endo. I had it mainly on my bladder, cervix and ovaries. My first period afterwards was quite bad, I then started the pill and have just stated my second period. The pain is absolutely unbearable, especially on my bladder and when passing urine. Is this normal? Is there any hope that things might improve for me? My doc said I would see a massive improvement after the lap and I am so worried that something has gone wrong or it has made things worse...

So sorry that you are still having pain As my specialist told me, there is no such thing as "normal" for the first 2-3 periods after a lap. Your body is still healing and is a bit angry. I had my lap a little less than a year ago and had bad pain for a good 6 months afterward, with my periods getting steadily better. Did you have bladder pain before your lap? I had some before my lap but it got much worse after surgery, so I have been seeing a urologist. Did you go to an endo specialist? Was your endo excised?

Hi Emily, thanks for the reply I did have bladder pain before my lap. I stopped the pill for 12 months (having been on it for 10 years) which is when it all started, things started to get worse and worse and that's what prompted me to get the lap to see what was going on. I saw a specialist (although I'm not sure that he was an endo specialist) and had the endo lasered off. He told me I would see a big improvement after the surgery and never warned me how bad my period would be. I thought something had gone wrong they have been so painful! I think I need to find a new doctor as I'm not very happy with my current one to be honest. He also prescribed decapeptyl (similar drug to lupron) but I'm too scared of all the side effects so I have decided not to take it. I'm currently back on the pill and hoping that will help to slow down the endo growing back. We are hoping to try for a baby in a few months also so hopefully the surgery will help with that at it won't grow back too quickly

Hi Ruby I've had three laps over the last seven years and never felt a dramatic improvement with the pain, I think your Doctor was silly to say there would be a massive improvement afterwards. The thing to remember is everyone is different, I've never had endo on my bladder (which sounds nasty) however my uterus was stuck onto my anus and that gave me discomfort at the back and I do feel an improvement with that. My last lap was in June this year and I've not had any relief from the pain and I know from a recent scan I've already got another deposit on my right ovary. That said I'm trying to get pregnant and therefore not on the pill. Hopefully being on the pill for a time will help your symptoms as the endo should calm down. If in doubt seek another opinion! All the best!
