Hi everyone, It's been a while since I was around...was feeling much pain in my absence and frustration...I often went to come here but often feel sorry for talking about my pain. Well I been waiting on a surgery date since May and I got a call today that they can get me in Friday like 5 days..i can't tell you how often I wished for this and last night before going to bed I was thinking I had a great birthday but if only I could get a call for surgery how great that be....I think that a lot though so really didn't think nothing happen but boom today I get a call...I was on cloud 9, felt confused as to what the lady on the other line was saying but got preop Thursday then surgery Friday! Is there any advice you can give on prep? I do shave already but had planned to wax for surgery but don't have time for that now, any special things I should buy??, anything to do at home? I live alone...me and my cat Any advice... As suddenly feel nervous!!! Thanks Butterfly

Woot woot! That's exciting! There are loads of threads in the surgical board to help you prepare. Here's a good one on things to help with recovery: endo-resolved.proboards.com/thread/3625/recovery-top-5-most-helpfulWill you have any family or friends to help you out and / or bring you to & from the hospital? If you're going to have limited help, I'd suggest making a few easy meals now, ones that you can just heat up and eat. You likely won't want to be spending a lot of time in the kitchen, at least the first few days. Think things that are easy on the stomach. I live alone with my cats, too, and was able to get my dad's help for 2 or 3 days, but after that, I was on my own. I survived, but it would have been nice to have a bit more help for a few more days. Don't be afraid to ask for help! I was... Best of luck, and let us know how it goes, k??

Thanks I been re looking over the threads all day trying to prepare. I am excited but nervous. Going out tomorrow to buy things I will need. Good idea on the meals..will probably try eating light for the first few days and have easy foods. Have a couple things prepared incase, buy lots of fruit on Thursday so it holds up good for a few days maybe get stuff for smoothies I do have family close by, not sure if I will be staying at their place for a couple days or if I will come on home. Thanks and sorry I have not been around but will keep everyone posted. B

I'm glad you were able to get a surgery date! Make sure you stock up on some stool softener and gas relief tablets. You might get a few prescribed to you after the surgery but it is good to have them in case you run out. Cold foods seemed to make the constipation worse for me. Walk a little each day to help get everything moving.
Buy some baby oil since you might need it to get the tape/steri strip goo off. I used baby wipes to help with bathing.
Hold a small pillow to your tummy or use an abdominal binder to help when you have to bend or move. Don't bend forward to pick up the cat. I would squat or plie since bending and picking up something (even as light as a cat) can cause the incisions to open again. I picked up my cat about 2 weeks after one of my surgeries and my bellybutton started bleeding.
Small crafts and reading are good things to do. Sometimes the anesthesia can make you dizzy for a few days so don't force yourself to read if you get dizzy or feel sick. I also liked watching a tv series since it lasts longer than a movie.
If your family is taking you to/from the hospital, maybe ask them to record what the doctor says after the surgery since doctors tend to tell you stuff right after surgery that they forget to go over during the post op.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for all that much appreciated I have a little list compiled to buy things and will add items I didn't have on it like the stool softener. I was thinking I buy a tv series this week to watch that. or go rent some. My cat loves to lay and cuddle with me so I better be careful of that do not want her not to cuddle me but will maybe place a pillow on me so she do not hurt me. I will keep you posted..Thanks

Hey everyone, butterfly had her surgery earlier today and gave me permission to send along the message she sent me over Facebook: Hey, I'm home and in a lot pain but resting...in and out of sleep for the most part and serverly nauseous. I not sure on much of surgery as Dr wasn't able to meet with me as she planned afterwards. The nurse did say there was endometriosis and there has been some removal of it, guess I will find out more later. And they gave me pain stuff when I woke but didn't give me a script for home ? tnurse told my sis to give grabol for nasuesa and o can take Advil or Tylenol.

Hi, Popped in quickly, stil in alot of pain..hurts so much to breath, move, anything. Ofcourse the ibuprofen is not working I was under the understanding I would get a prescription but didn't & i'm not one to want meds but when ya need them it is different and I need them bad... They did a D&C on me too when I was in surgery. It is the weekend so can't get ahold of my Dr till Monday...and will do a follow up appt in 6Weeks with gynecologist so will find out then the extent of what they found, where to, etc.. Happy I got some answers though to why I been in pain for so long. Going to try and sleep again...I realized last night that crying makes the pain worse, had a break down I was hurting so much but it made my pain worse so managed to calm myself down... I guess they thought I was tough to not need pain meds after. Thanks for well wishes

I'm sorry but it HAD to have been a mistake on the RN's part that you went home without meds. Call your surgeon and tell them what happened. They will have an emergency line even on a weekend. Don't try to tough it out. Its really not necessary.

Hi, sorry for late update..I went to the er last night and was saw pretty quickly and got a scrip for pain meds..they were shocked I was sent with none. I to think it must have been a mistake somewhere. Pain was a bit better today now that I got a steady dose of meds in me...will mention this all to my Dr when I see her , I don't think it was her fault but something happened and just to also let get know I went to er. For now it is just rest rest...

Oh, thank goodness you were able to get some pain pills!!! That's awful that you were sent home with none. I know a few people that can't take them due to allergies, but my goodness, everyone else should be able to get them! That kind of pain is nothing we can just tough it out through...
Hope they're kicking in now and allowing you to rest up and heal!
