Hi, Is anyone else having periods where they are having to change super tampons every half hour due to leaking ? I have days on my period where I can't make it a half hour without leaking through..and leaking a lot! Sometimes it goes beyond leaking to a full gush . I can not use pads, and find it hard enough to use liners. It is definitely getting worse with the flow and pain...I don't know if this is normal or not to have a flow this bad. Yesterday and today I have had to change my tmpon so ofen I feel almost sore if anyone understands what I mean....

I had this same thing, pretty miserable, expensive, and uncomfortable. I talked to my gyno and she suggested a prescription called Lysteda (generic: tranexamic acid). It promises to cut down bleeding by up to 40% on your heaviest days. I've taken it my last few periods and its made a major difference (1 super tampon every 1 1/2-2 hours). It's non hormonal, which makes me like it even more. Ask your doc!

I always had about two days that I was a' gushing! However if you soak more than 1 pad in an hour, that could be considered hemorrhage and I would at least ask your doctor about it. It also leads to some issues with anemia which is very draining physically. If the pad soaking/one hour goes on for more than an hour, you may need to consider going to an ER as it can be dangerous. I know this one woman that used to sleep in the bathtub because she bled so bad. It really isn't normal. UGH

I will mention it to my Dr this week and hoping to see gyno sooner than 6 months.. Thanks for that info I also like that it is not hormonal too, the medication. I don't use pads so unsure about that piece..but I am guessing if I did use pads I would soak it considering the super tampon change every half hour. Don't even make it to change without leaking.. So friggin annoying!! I would sew myself up before using a pad lol. Just can't use them!!!

Like Omak said, it's not "normal" but has happened to a lot of us. It's hard to remember that you can get used to things but they still aren't right! I would talk to your doc, sometimes progesterone can help, or BC but it depends on your plans for fertility etc.

What kind of tampons are you using? Are you soaking the tampon in addition to leaking around it? I've noticed some tampons just suck and don't absorb very well and you can leak even when your flow isn't super heavy. I hope your doctor can figure it out for you!

I am debating BC,.don't want to take it but feel if I don't my Dr will just think my pain must not be serious...I hate taking meds as it is and so frustrated they are the first thing they give. I use the Tampax pearl now...I do find the tampons are soaked too though as will as leaking... Have you tried any that are better? I will leak around it and at times have a full fledge leak as if I have nothing at all in protecting me..which probably isn't a leak... I went to the ER last night, they hooked me up to iv , took blood and did ultrasound....and that was it... Two very small cyst one on uterus and one on left ovary, but Dr said he doubt that is the pain and he would agree with my Dr on endo...but pretty much wait for your appt in July. Then gave me a scrip for mild narcotic,.which I hate taking...but may fill it. But home now in bed resting. Pain isn't as bad but so frustrated and upset. sigh..sorry. But yeah what tampons do you use? sometimes I have noticed a little leak and tampon not fully soaked but thought it was positioning maybe..but usually pretty logged down they couldn't get much blood to come out for blood work this morning, I was going to say "that's cause I Have bled everything out of my vagina" lol but wasnt so sure she appreciate my humour lol.

I use Tampax radiant, which I find works a little better. I think that it expands more and catches more than the pearl. I haven't tried anything but Tampax generally, so there may be something better out there. I'm glad that you went to the ER, even if they didn't do a ton for you. I had a similar problem when getting my pre lap bloodwork done a couple of weeks ago! I was on my period and it took her 30 minutes and 4 different draw locations to get 3 little tubes, I was even really well hydrated. So strange!

I'm glad you went to the ER, but I'm mad that the doctor told you to just wait until your appointment. Ask for copies of all of your medical records. If you show your PCP that this has been going on for a while along with the ultrasound, they might try to find a way to move your appointment up.
I had the same problem as you with the tampons. I can't seem to get them in properly or I bleed through it very quickly. I don't have a brand suggestion for you. Do you seem to have clotting during your period? I had really bad clotting and that seemed to block the tampon from absorbing a lot and led to leaking.

I do have clotting yeah.. I took a copy of my record yesterday from being at the ER, 3 ultrasounds since August , you would think they make apush somewhere. Thanks for understanding my frustration. Talked with my family Dr last night and after that I broke down crying as they just say wait wait wait. I guess I have to suck it up and wait. This is so playing on my emotions and mental state along with physical. I am glad I found this board though as you are all so helpful and understanding!

I use Tampax too and mine leak all the time. I figured it's the brand or the absorbance that's causing it. I have been wearing both thin pads and tampons lately which is extremely annoying but at least it's saving my clothes I'm sorry about your trip to the ER. The ER is a place that a lot of people misunderstand. The ER is designed to make sure your life (or limb) is not in danger. Beyond that, there's not much they can do. The ER is for life threatening emergencies. So they draw blood to make sure you're not anemic, and do an ultrasound to make sure you're not actively bleeding or have an abnormal pregnancy that can cause a serious problem. The ER can also give you immediate pain control but for a chronic issue, that cannot be addressed in the ER. You can't necessarily get "answers" in the ER unless it's a life threatening emergency. Emergency room doctors are essentially "specialists" of conditions and injuries that threaten a person's life. I think the care you received was appropriate for the problem you presented with. They ruled out the serious stuff and then referred you to the expert that you need. The only thing I don't agree with is how they think you can wait until July to address this problem. That's just crazy. If you are not having your pain controlled or you're having bleeding that you can't explain, then you should get an appointment for sooner.

Yeah I was half thinking the ER would be that way but thought i give it a shot, at least I know now though . I was hoping too maybe they could do something in result of a push on appt but i guess not sinsidering i was told to wait. Oh i agree i got cared for well there too just frustrated that told to wait. They were caring and conforting and the curses especially felt bad for how much pain i was in. And while doing the IV they are so great, and honest with me. I was checked on a lot too which i thought was good. The Dr was nice as well... OUr health care here can be not the best at time with wait periods and i now understand that first hand. I was more frustrated with pain and no process than the Dr and nurses at ER, even when i was leaving i was very thankful to them. Thanking each one for all that they did, heck even thanked them for putting an iv in lol.
I just wish someone could help my pain and give answers.
I hear you on the tampons and the thin pads, i am having to use liners as back up but they are not even saving clothes at times. I have ruined cloths and especially p.j's , so many pajamas ruined unreal. I hate pads but can manage the thin liners barely though. I bleed bad for two days and then book it is like the facuet is turned off and i practically stop just like that. So weird. I then maybe have some spotting though, but will still use tampons for that as a back up in case.

Well not normal...but endo related? so nauseous I only found comfort sitting on bathroom floor , I thought I was going to pass a bowling ball from my vagina but nope no bowling ball Does the blackouts scare anyone else?
