Has anyone seen him? He is one of the faculty doctors at George Washington Hospital. I'm looking for a new GYN since the Mirena isn't really helping and my current GYN won't try aromatase inhibitors.

I don't know anything about Dr. Robinson. Have you looked to see if he has any reviews online? Those can be helpful sometimes. Some of us in the DC area see Dr. Belizan at Shady Grove. He's my current gyn and I love him to pieces! I don't know if he prescribes aromatase inhibitors though. Aromatase inhibitors are traditionally a breast cancer drug so I'm wondering if the Gyns at Georgetown would be more inclined to use it since they have a huge breast health clinic that specializes in breast disease. Might be something worth looking into. If you decide to see Dr. Robinson will you let us know how it goes? We're always looking for good Gyns in the DC area.

I want to second Jenaya with the vote for Dr. Belizan.
My first endo surgery was with doctors affiliated with GW. It was a very bad experience. They just cut apart the adhesions without cutting out the endo and wouldn't answer any questions. But then, that wasn't this doctor, so if you do go see him I hope it goes well for you. But if you can get out to Rockville, i definitely recommend Dr. Belizan. His offices are actually transit accessible: metro +rideon bus.

I know in the DC thread you mentioned that doctors who give you the pregnancy talk drive you crazy which is why you were weary of Dr. Belizan. That's totally understandable and I agree because I can't stand the pregnancy talk either. With that being said, I have been going to Dr. Belizan for 5 years now and I have come to understand that he is a very kind and understanding person. He doesn't give the pregnancy talk because he's old school and thinks all women should reproduce. He gives the talk because he's thorough. If you are up front and clear with him that pregnancy is not an option then he will absolutely respect it and back off. If you want, send me a personal message and I'll tell you more about my interactions with Dr. Belizan. I'd be more than happy to answer any questions. I wish I could tell you more about Dr. Robinson! I did find these two patient reviews online that have nothing but good things to say about him: www.ratemds.com/doctor-ratings/2699916/Dr-JAMES+K.-ROBINSON-WASHINGTON-DC.html

I know someone who is very knowledgeable about aromatase inhibitors........Dr Linda Guidice at UCSF. She is an expert in the medical treatment of endo. Google her and you can read some of her articles. Im assuming that you are on the East Coast, but perhaps she would recommend a doc in your area. Her office was helpful when I called with questions.

Thanks everyone!
Jenaya, I'd consider Dr.Belizan if he wasn't so far away. I live in Southern Maryland but work in downtown D.C. I'd really prefer a doctor in Southern Maryland but GW works since its only a couple metro stops from work. But if Dr.Robinson doesn't work out the. I'll consider Dr.Belizan. I'm going in for a consultation on December 18th. So I'll report back then!

So, I really liked Dr. Robinson! He is well versed in endometriosis treatments, including treatments in Europe and current FDA trials. He believes in aggressively excising endo implants during surgery. He prefers using Da Vinci robotic surgery since, he said, he can see more of the field.
The only annoying part, and this applies to all doctors at GW, since it is a teaching hospital he had a "mentee" with him. She did the pelvic exam. And while I'm fine with the pelvic exam for good measure, I can't imagine that he would have found endo just through an exam unless the implants were huge. He has apparently developed a special MRI with contrast with one particular Radiologist with GW which enables him to see the status of the endo, particularly if the implants are larger.
He actually spent quite a bit of time talking to me about my options. Since I still have a lot of pain and bleeding with Mirena at the nearly six month mark he agreed that Mirena will likely not help me. So I'm getting mirena taken out and I'll try a one month shot of Lupron with norethindrone as add back. I'm not starting Lupron until after my MRI though.
All in all, I recommend him and I'd be happy to keep everyone updated.

We seriously need to start a Lupron club! I am starting the shots in the next few weeks as well, and for similar reasons. I'm glad you found a doctor you can trust. If you want a Lupron buddy feel free to send me a pm.
Also, I have found that any breakthrough bleeding on any form of BC puts my endo symptoms completely out of control, even though usually the bleeding is lighter, things seem to overall be worse I am guessing because there is a steady stream of inflammation and nasty.
I tend to find that any time I am seen by someone the first time for endo they want a pelvic, I guess to rule out other issues? The worst was when I was in the ER, I had at least 2 exams (might of been three I was too out of sorts to remember).

I'm so glad you had a good experience with him! I'm really interested in knowing more about this MRI he does.
