I had a conversation last week with a friend of mine. We were both talking about our girly-part problems, and the conversation eventually went to Gardasil, the HPV vaccine. She shared that one of her close friends had both her daughters vaccinated and now both girls are showing signs of premature menopause, both within a month of getting the vaccine. Both are under the age of 18. I realize this is anecdotal, but there's a lot of similar info on the web and I've heard one of the original researchers of the vaccine is trying to get the word out. There are even some reports of death, though I don't know how directly related to the vaccine they were. Here's one website with stories of girls that were adversely affected: sanevax.org/Since this is a site about girly-part issues, I wanted to at least put a bug in everyone's ear. If you or a family member are thinking about getting this vaccine, AT A MINIMUM, do your homework and read up on it, including all the potential risks. If you already have had the vaccine and your endo-like problems started after taking it, if the timing seems about right, consider submitting your experience to the FDA. www.fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch/default.htm

This is one of those things that got pushed into circulation way to fast. They don't have a clue about the long term side affects and didn't any long term studies. They are trying to get all girls 11 and above to get it. I belieive in vacinations but no chance are we letting our girls have this one.

I agree that this is a horrible vaccine. A few years ago, I went to a clinic to get some shots (TDAP, Malaria) since I was going to go to school in Japan and going back to the Philippines for summer vacation. The lady said that since I was 18, I should get the new HPV shot (it had only been out for a couple months). I got the first shot. It was the most painful shot I ever had. It is worse than Lupron shots! As I was waiting in the reception area in line to pay, I passed out. They just let me lie down for a few minutes and then sent me home and asked me to come back in a month for the next shot. I never went back to that clinic again. I'm surprised I even made it home since I took the bus and walked home.
My arm hurt horribly for about 3 weeks. I went to school in Japan and went to the hospital a few times, but they said my abdominal pain was gas. When I got back from the Philippines, I had emergency surgery and was diagnosed with endo.
I don't know if the HPV vaccine set off the endo, but I am horrified that schools are making girls as young as 9 get these shots.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience. I saw a nutritionist this spring that has endo and works with a lot of women with endo and so many of their symptoms can be tied to one vaccine or another, and that's really scary to hear!

Wow. What a nightmare. I'm so sorry for that. Karen, did the nutritionist say why women with endo have symptoms worsen with vaccines?

She said something about triggering something in our immune system, but I don't remember the specifics. Perhaps Jenaya can elaborate?

That sort of makes sense. Women with endo have overactive immune systems because of having to fight the endo. So we might have a stronger reaction to a vaccine. And an immune reaction = inflammation = pain.
