Hey rustmyrtle, it's been a while since we've talked, but, it's SamIam. Not sure if you remember me from months back, but I'm posting again (with a new name) and thought I'd wish you well for your upcoming surgery. I just got through catching up with all you've been going through recently, and as we say down south, "bless your heart, honey!" I know how you feel about the whole BC pill decision, it's a tough one! It's sounds like you have a great doctor on your side working for you, and I am keeping a good thought for you and hope you feel much better soon! ;D

Hey rust, I'm glad the appt went well. And I'm glad he wants to try to make things better. I dont now much about him, does he do excision? Is he comfortable removing endo from the bowel (not just resection) along with the colon surgeon? I hope he's going to be as thorough as possible to limit any issues for the future- I want the best for you! Six hrs sounds about right, this is unfortunately going to take a while (well, you won't realize it since you'll be asleep!). I'm sorry you have to face surgery but it seems like the best option right now.
That's interesting about the Visanne. Since its not approved here yet (I think it must be in the works) I wonder how you could get it. Did he say if he had other patients on it? I know there are some ladies who would like to be on it if it works out for you.

He does have other patients (internationally) on Visanne, and says that they are doing well. He seems to think that it is obtainable.
I do like and trust him, and he does do excision. He is comfortable digging what he can out of the colon, and then cutting out what is too affected. I think he's not on the ERCs website because he's mostly international, and his practice is pretty quiet. He's just an odd personality. I know that this sounds weird, but listening to him talk about how he does surgery, it sounded like a bicycle mechanic, and that gave me confidence. His thought process and thoroughness is how I look at a bicycle, and I just liked it and trusted him. And I think, if this really doesn't work, my next step in teh next bit will be to go to the CEC. But I just have a good feeling about him.

Wow you're going to have a pretty major surgery! Is he going to keep you in the hospital for an overnight pain control or anything? I am so glad he's going to have a bowel surgeon there. That's so awesome! I laughed at that picture on the ceiling of the ocean because I've stared at that very same picture! Have you read through our Visanne thread? It seems to work pretty well for some people. It's something to think about. I'm so glad you feel good with Dr. Belizan! I really want to see you feel better. You always fight so hard through some pretty horrific pain. I really hope this surgery gives you some much deserved relief.

Glad last night was good, I think that is totally worth it! I imagine if they do a resection you'll be in the hospital a few days, it's kindof hard not knowing exactly whats going to happen but that's the nature of surgery. I love multiple surgeon surgeries, get it all done at once!!

I was actually thinking, "you know you're an endo girl if you get so excited about surgery you get drunk to celebrate...."
But yes, I think I'll be in the hospital a few days. I'm mostly just very relieved. Need to get my act together over these next few weeks, and try not to have a complete bowel obstruction, and then I'll be good.
This is all made even crazier because my work is a bit crazy at the moment--has been for a few years--and I'm going for a job interview today... But, that's life!

"you know you're an endo girl if you get so excited about surgery you get drunk to celebrate...." Good Luck on the upcoming surgery. It sounds like you will have a similar surgery to mine? Excision on the colon resection of the bowel is not as scary as I thought it was going to be. It takes time to get used to the fact that endo actually does go anywhere it pleases and alot of time and effort taking contron of your health. You have done that and if you need any advice please inbox me. Take care of yourself. Let the doctors do what they need to do and relax in the hospital. You are ready for this I hope you get the same relief I got from bowel surgery.

Hope the interview was good. I like your bit: "try not to have a complete bowel obstruction". I had my first appt scheduled with my endo doc, then went in the hospital for the SBO. I still made the appt, but am still amazed at the timing on that one! Maybe avoid that, it was a little stressful

I have been off the grid for the last week, so I'm just catching up again with everything. I'm glad to hear you got some help Rust and a date for surgery. Playing around with bowel obstructions is not good. Did they suggest anything diet wise to prevent any obstructions in the meantime? I was just thinking the other day if there is ever going to be a time when I stop having surgeries and I read this whole thing and just realized that we have to be open to that possibility when these serious things come up like this partial obstruction. (I always get excited by a surgery date too!) Its nice to know there may be an expiration date on your pain!!

Quick question you all. I've been struggling with a terrific migraine the past 4 days or so. No idea why except maybe stress of interviewing for a new job I am not quite sure I want and scheduling surgery, but I don't normally get so stressed out. Anyway, I have migraine medicine which I took last night (prescription). It helped last night but am in the same boat again today. I was told I couldn't take Advil/Aleve/aspirin before surgery. So I haven't. But this is awful--can I really not take any of those?

I'm sorry. that sucks. Have you tried magnesium supplementation? I know most pain killers are off limits, but you might want to call a nurse on call or something and check. Maybe Tylenol is ok? I have no idea, but it may not hurt to at least ask! I hope it passes soon for you.

Tylenol is usually ok, you could check with your doc or his nurse. My surgeon always says no ibuprofen or aspirin for 2wks prior to surgery, which sucked when I got my period a week before. My other suggestion would be cool compress (like a damp washcloth) on your forehead or back of the neck. Kinda basic, but sometimes works (helpful for nausea too). What day is your surgery next week?

Thanks semi! That is what I was afraid of. I've been taking Tylenol and it's not doing anything! The cloth has been my only go to... I have surgery next wednesday so it isn't too much longer until then.

Rust, not sure if you've got tension in your neck and shoulders with migraine or not, but I've noticed that a lot of times my headaches start there. Mineral Ice Rub (you can get it at WalMart and it's a bright blue color in a plastic tub) does absolute WONDERS for my headaches, and the best part you don't have to take anything. Hope it helps

Hey Rust- good luck with surgery tomorrow! I hope you're feeling good about things (and if you're doing a bowel prep I always find a little Dave Barry is a great read . Let us know how everything goes, I'll be thinking of you. And please, don't try to bike home
