Hey everyone! Sorry I thought I'd start a post about alcohol because I haven't seen one yet, and I hope this is the correct category to put it in hehe!
Anyway..I have been told it's ok to drink in moderation, but definetly cut out the sugary drinks etc. I like to take shots, crown (canadian whiskey) to be exact, straight up with a sprite or ginger ale as a chaser...but now since I found out about endo, and am 1 + month post op I was told to stay clear from my drink of choice and try clear. And also chase with water instead (which I am fine with). BUT the main question is, all my life I've been so use to dark liquor (yes the bad ones, like Hennessey & Crown etc) Do any of you have any "healthy [ier]" alcohol drinks you can recommend?

Vodka seems to affect me the least, though it's not a replacement for my beloved beer... Ah, I miss beer... Wine seems to give me more inflammation.

I totally LOL'ed when I saw the title of this thread with the big happy face next to it. HAHA! That was great.
Alcohol is funny for me. I have noticed that clearer liquors affect me the least, just like Karen. I have also read that alcohol is its highest purity causes less of a hangover as long as you don't over do it. The only bad part about that is it's usually expensive. Some of the higher quality vodkas and tequilas I seem to do ok with, relatively speaking. Wine makes me feel so awful. I don't know what it is about wine. You'd think it would be good for you since it's made from grapes but I'm guessing I must be allergic to something in it because even one glass makes me feel sick. I have a love/hate relationship with alcohol so I rarely drink and when I do, it's very minimal.
I would avoid any alcohol that's wheat based like beer, whiskey, gin and bourbon. Sometimes flavored vodka can be a problem too. There is potato based vodka and corn based whiskey but I've never tried it. HAHA dang I just took all the fun out of drinking!

Oh I forgot!! Sake is really great! I never feel horrible after drinking sake. It's made from rice.

I have to add, as a good southerner, that bourbon is corn-based, not wheat-based, though some of it has rye in it--depends on the type. However, corn-liquor, potato-liquor, etc---it's all sugar, really, so it's inflammatory. Once I got diagnosed and learned about the link between several foods and inflammation, including alcohol, I have essentially cut it out. I drank some wine at a wedding recently and really regretted its effect on my bladder. However, I haven't completely cut out my bourbon--just don't have it very often. It's even more fun to drink when you rarely do it .

LOL thanks for all your replies ladies! I've stuck with dark liquor (til now, except for last night [in moderation]) because clear liquor always seem to give me a headache, even after the first shot, & the pain this morning wasn't bad..just a little discomfort(2 out of 10). I guess I'll have to try new/better/expensive ones then! I have been sipping on some mascato's here and there, and that seems to be fine, I've tried sake before, but not after endo so I will def give it a try again

Jenaya- when I looked into whiskey (there is this maple-flavored whiskey that is awesome in hot cider!) the FDA and NIH say distiller liquors are ok, but I think celiac disease websites say you may or may not be ok with them. Maybe it has to do with how they distill the liquor (are clearer liquors more distilled??). I've never tried sake. My friend recently got me on frangelico over ice, it's made from hazelnuts I believe.
If anyone is looking for a gluten free beer that actually tastes like a good micro brew, try New Planet. Best I've tried hands down, although since its expensive it's a special occasion treat.

HI!
I have totally written off drinking from my regimine. I can't tolorate any of the clear ones, maybe it was too many vodka's and close calls with the toilet barfing. LOL! Red wine gives me a killer headache and I haven't had an opportunity to try any white wine lately. I'm almost afraid to drink because of how awful it makes me feel. I'm ok with a dark rum but that's about it.

I don't know if I can give up alcohol lol especially for those horrid days at work or school. I guess I'll have to keep looking, hehe, trial & errors.

My grandma makes her own alcohol..well it's herbal, different types. She uses I believe the cheapest Vodkha like Monarch & puts pine cones & other natural grown stuff (doesn't taste good, but she always force me to drink it when aunt flow comes & visit)..this other one I like very much has banana, pineapples & honey in it! Myabe I'll have her make me a jar lol
