I saw Dr. Mosbrucker for my pre-op today. She explained that they would do a presacral neurectomy, remove my appendix, gallbladder, adheasions, scar tissue, and endo. She also said that she will shoot some Botox into my muscles to stop them from spasming. Has anyone had Botox before to treat endo pain? I've never heard of using Botox for endo. She will also look for endo on my diaphragm and reconstruct it with Dr. Pai if needed. There is also the possibility of a bowel resection. I'm so glad I'm deeing Dr. M for this since it seems like she is the only on with a clear understanding of endo in the area. I'm excited right now because the pain is so bad it is getting harder to breathe or keep food down. Dr. M also moved me to be the first patient of the day for surgery. Although it is really early, 5:15 am, I'm glad I don't have to wait for the robot. My last surgery was about 5 hours late and I was so dehydrated that my IV vein collasped during my surgery. I'm sick too! My tonsils are swollen right now that it is hard to swallow. I got some antibiotics from my PCP and am hoping that this clears up before next Friday.

I know botox has been used for migraines before, and I *think* I saw a mention around here about it being used for endo, but I can't find it. Whatever the case, I'm glad you have someone on your side that knows what she's doing and will be very thorough. Here's hoping that infection clears up!!!

Wow she really sounds like an expert! Keri (KSA) found some information about the Cleveland Clinic using Botox for pelvic pain. I'll have to dig up that thread. Dr. Mos sounds wonderful and I can't wait to hear what she does for you! I have my fingers crossed!!

I just got back from the hospital. I got over my swollen tonsils way before the surgery. The surgery went well. Dr. M took out my endo, which was everywhere and my appendix. Dr. Pai took out my gallbladder first and found endo on my diaphragm, so she and Dr. M burned it off. I had endo all over my bowels and a partial resection was done. Dr. M also performed a presacral neurectomy, injected Botox into my pelvic floor, and cut apart my adheasions. She also put in a special sheet to help stop adheasions from forming. She moved my ovaries towards my hip bones since my right ovary was stuck to my bowel and my left one was underneath my bowel. She kind of bad mouthed my last doctor saying that he only excised the superficial endo and did not dig down far enough to cut the root of it. I feel really good! This is the best I have ever felt after one of my surgeries. The nurses helped control my pain really well. Last year they just kept pushing morphine (10 doses) and I yelled at them that morphine has no effect on me (I also told them that before my surgery) . This time they put me on dilaudid, so I had no pain until today when they switched me to percocet. I have a little pain, but I had a lot more pain before surgery. She gave my mom a lot of pictures. I might put them up later on. Right now my mom and sister are taking care of me. I'll keep you updated.

I'm so glad you saw a specialist since you had so much endo in there! I hope you continue to feel good- if the pain meds aren't working it sounds like they are totally great to work with so give the office a call.
I found that it took a while to recover from my colon resection, and I had a bit of shoulder pain from the diaphragm healing, but it got better with time (mine were in separate surgeries). Go easy on yourself and you'll be great!

That sounds like an extensive surgery. I am SO GLAD you went to a specialist. Take care of yourself and let us know how you are doing as you recover!

I have been having a hard time. I had an allergic reaction to the iodine the used to prep my surgery site. Hives have spread from the top of my thighs to the bottom of my breasts. It's so itchy!
I've never had an allergic reaction to iodine before, but my aunt has a severe allergy to it. I called the doctor and they told me to put hydrocortisone cream on it and take some allergy medicine.
It is so hard to stop itching! My surgery wounds are swollen too. I hope this goes away soon!

Did they want you to take Benadryl? That sounds awful! It's probably too early in recovery to take a bath, otherwise I'd say take an oatmeal bath. You could try just a cold compress on your tummy. I hope it gets better soon! How are you feeling otherwise?

I had the same reaction. It is SOOO miserable. I actually ended up on prednisone for 5 weeks after my surgery, and had to have several allergy shots in teh ass. If it's not going away with benadryl, get to a doctor and get something stronger. It will only get harder to suppress the longer it goes!

I hope I don't have to go through what you did, rustmyrtle. The reaction still has not gone away. I tried to get an appointment with my PCP, but he just got back from vacation and is booked until the end of next week. I'll ask Dr. M or Dr. Pai about it when I go in for my post ops on Wednesday. I hope it goes away before then.
Otherwise, I'm feeling okay. I have some pain, but it is not that bad. It has become a little worse since yesterday, but I think it's because it got really cold here.
I'm dealing with cabin fever though. I'm so bored. I went through all of my movies/TV shows. I also did too many crafts before my surgery, so I don't have anything to do.

Bit of an update. I've been really sick for about 5 days. I have bad nausea and can't keep most foods down. I also have a lot more pain.
I went in for my post op yesterday and was told that I have a bladder infection. The hives went away for about 2 days earlier in the week, but came back and spread so I am on steroids for the hives and amoxicillian for the infection.
Dr. Pai is somewhat worried about the color of the incision sites since my skin has turned a weird purple color in a square shape around each one. She thinks it is from the bandaids that were put on to protect the steri strips.
Dr. M says I can choose to go back on BCPs if I want to, but she thinks I don't need it yet. I asked about the Botox and she said that it lasts about 3 to 6 months. After that time, we will see if she needs to inject more if my muscles have not stopped spasaming. At my next post op we will decide if I need to go to PT.
The steroids give me a lot of muscle cramps so it was hard too sleep last night. Thankfully my friend brought a ton of TV series box sets so I have something to watch.
I have been trying to read a little, but the nausea has made it really hard to stare at a book. KSA, I think 50 Shades of Grey might be a little too hot for me, I'm still a virgin. I don't have many books here and my mom does not want to go to the library or bookstore. But I've looked at the reading thread and am trying to decide what I can order on amazon.
