Hi ladies! I posted awhile back that I was possibly taking my daughter (17yo with chronic pain for past three years) to see Dr. Cook. Well, we got back Saturday.
It was a great experience. He spent about 2 hours with us. Dd had a transvaginal ultrasound, which enabled the doc to pinpoint her pain, which is in the musculature next to the uterus, not her ovary, as we thought. He also found that she has some pain in her bladder. She doesn't have any symptoms there yet, but her pain has been spreading lately, so we couldn't have had better timing to see him.
She will be having surgery with him in July, after I get an answer from our HMO appeal (which I will be filing this week). If they say "no," we'll be refinancing our home to get the money. She's been in pain for three years, missed two years of high school, and hardly has a life...we have to do what we have to do.
Just wanted to update y'all. So far, Dr. Cook and his staff are AMAZING. I believe the way we were treated in his office is how health care providers are supposed to care for patients. Also, his assistant is the most efficient, kind, informative person I have ever encountered when dealing with an office.
If you can, I highly recommend seeing him.

Good for you! Your daughter is super lucky to have your support. I hope that she is feeling better soon. July is not too far away Let us know how the HMO appeal goes. If you find a way to get this covered by insurance (even partially..... that would be something that I lloked into myself). Best of Luck

This is so great, I'm glad you had a good experience. This disease sometimes sends you down so many dead end paths & options, finding a great doc feels almost like a miracle! Good luck to your daughter, having a plan makes the waiting a bit more tolerable.
Good luck with the insurance, don't take no for an answer and talk to as many people as you have to! Please keep us updated on how that goes, there are many ladies in similar situations with insurance who would love to see a specialist.

Hey, thanks for updating us! I'm thrilled you had a positive experience with him - that's awesome. We'll cross our fingers that insurance pulls through! Any chance you can get your local 'covered' doc to refer you there? I've found that's sometimes a workaround. Good luck!

Thanks, you guys! If I can get our HMO to cover, I will be posting how I did it. My dd's pediatrician said that HMOs frequently grant appeals, so I'm praying for the best. I should be submitting it here in a few days. I am hitting them with quite a bit of stuff. Karen, I almost took her to the guy to whom they referred us, but we are getting killed with co-pays, and I didn't want to spend the money. I did talk to his office, and they told me he does treat pelvic pain, but he is not an endo expert. I put that in my letter to the insurance company. Will keep you all updated. Prayers are greatly appreciated! Love you all.

I wonder if it would help if you mention that by having this surgery by an expert that you have potential to eliminate some pretty expensive ER visits, tests, and treatments that Kaiser has to cover if she continues the way she is now. If you can word it that it will be cost beneficial to KAISER then they will consider it a little more. Greedy bastards. Ahem, excuse me. That one slipped.
