I didn't have anything on hand to take with me to work for lunch today so I grabbed some pistachios and raisins. After I ate the pistachios my stomach got really upset. I am not a huge nut fan, so I don't eat them regularly. I was thinking back to the last time I had them and I am pretty sure the same thing happened. Has any thing like this ever happened to you? What could it be?

I recently found out that nuts can actually be not so good for some people. My nutritionist called them a 'caution' food. Essentially, nuts are a seed, and as a result, they have enzymes that will inhibit digestion. It's their defense mechanism. So, not only can it cause you to not digest them properly, they can actually prevent you from digesting other nutrients properly as well. Perhaps you should keep track of your nut consumption and see if it continues to happen, or just eliminate nuts from your diet all together? There could be more going on than just that, but that's my 2 cents.

Well......going back to the fructose intolorance, I'm putting my money on the raisins. They make me sick every single time - again, high in fructose. Pistachios don't agree with me either, I stick to walnuts and almonds.

karen- That is interesting. I didn't know that about nuts. I tried to Google my problem, but there was nothing that really related to my problem. I have walnuts in my salad, and have no problem (maybe it was because I ate the pistachios on an empty stomach?). loveshoes- I eat raisins all of the time (not a lot, but probably a small hand full. If I eat any more I do get sick). Anyways, thanks for your input. I think I will just remove them from my diet. I hardly eat them, so I won't be missing them too much.
