Hi! I am 23 years old and I am married to a wonderful man (who has been very patient and encouraging through all of this). I have been struggling with severe periods for about 6 years. I have always had painful/heavy periods, but they didn't stop me from my everyday tasks before 6 years ago. The pain was progressive, and got so bad that I was lying in agony in the fetal position crying for 3-4 days straight, and the pain didn't go away with my period. I was having a constant pain almost all of the time, spotting (sometimes like another period), I was sick to my stomach, headaches, painful sex and bleeding during/after(sorry for the TMI), painful everything, and also infertility. We have been TTC for over 2 years. I finally went to the doctor (I have no insurance) she told me that everything I was experiencing was "NORMAL"!! Normal for who? I had done quite a bit of research prior to my visit, and had come across "endometriosis" I had never heard of it before, but all of my symptoms matched up perfectly. So I suggested to her that I thought I might have that and she rolled her eyes at me and said that it was rare and I probably didn't have it. Anyway, I left and decided that I would take my health and recovery into my own hands (I KNEW that this wasn't ad couldn't be "normal") and sought out to see if there was a natural (free $$) way to relieve my pain (I was ready to try ANYTHING). I googled the endo diet and came across this site, and dropped everything it said to out of my diet, and within days I felt relief. It wasn't completely gone, but I thought it was heaven. It has been about 2 months since I started the diet, and am still having occasional pain, and my periods are still pretty bad (not AS bad), but life is now pretty "normal" lol. I just ordered "Recipes for the Endometriosis Diet" because I ran out of things to eat, and it is very interesting. I am excited to try out the recipes, and I am excited to get to know all of you and to share my ideas as well as get some of yours!

Hi and welcome, Neina. Your energy adn commitment are wonderful--congratulations to you on figuring out a way to control the pain naturally. As I'm sure you've seen, many of us on here swear by the diet as a way to control the pain.
When you do get insurance again, I would encourage you to find a doctor who isn't an idiot (as that one you went to clearly was) so you can know for sure what is going on. Welcome!

Welcome to the board! Good for you for doing what you can to help manage your symptoms. When you get health coverage, we'd encourage you to find a more knowledgeable doctor, but in the meantime, it's great that you're taking control of your health. Look around - you'll see some other good options!

Hello and welcome! This is so cool that you're trying the diet and I'm so happy to see that you are finding relief! That doctor said endometriosis is rare huh? LOL wow... probably rare for her because she never looks for it! You totally rock for trying to find your own way to take charge of your health. I'm glad you joined the board! There's lots of great info to help you along the way. Where are you from?

Welcome! Your doctor is a tool, I'd find a new one if you can. Endo is rare- my colon! I know it's tough having no insurance, but maybe that can change in the future and give you more options. In the meanwhile there is lots of info here, enjoy.

Hello and welcome! Kudos to you for being brave and jumping into the endo diet pool! There are so many yummy things that are GF! I love almond milk, blue diamond thin crisps, trader joes if you have one in your area has so many GF foods. Rolling my eyes at your doctor rolling her eyes - don't even get any of us started on that story....the average time for diagnosis for endo is over 8 years! I was at the doctor complaining of dire pain for years, it actually seems that endo is becoming more common. I'm glad you found us!

Haha, it is really nice (well... not nice, I am actually very sorry any of you have to endure it!) to have people who understand, and who also understand what a whack that doctor was! I have been doing TONS of research on Endometriosis (I am pretty sure that I could teach a 10 hour lecture on it! lol) and yet it seems like I know absolutely nothing about it. I really am looking forward to digging into these past threads! Jenaya- Sorry, I am from Arizona (US). Smack dab in the middle of nowhere. Loveshoes- I have been meaning to check out Trader Joes for about 3 years now! lol I have never had a chance to get there. I have a Sunflower Market about a stone's throw away (it is also amazing with how much it offers to my diet... without it, I would probably have withered away by now). I will have to force myself to go soon though! BTW- Sorry if my bad grammar/punctuation bother anyone. Since I got out of school, I have been quite lazy about it. :\

It has been awhile since I have been on here. There has been so much that has happened in the past 2 years! I stuck to the endo diet for 2 full years, and it helped tremendously!! I hardly had any symptoms. It was really relieving to have a break from the pain (but, not entirely free from it). I have still not been able to run/jog, and I am still infertile. I finally got health insurance this year and have been seeking out answers. I have been having some digestive issues and thought that it might be something gastrointestinal. I went to a GP and gave her my symptoms and kept saying "huh... I've never heard of that" and then asked if I feel better after having gone on my diet. I said yes, and she said "awesome! Kudos, it sounds like you have everything in hand!".... argh. So I skipped her and went straight to the gastro. He took me off of my diet and did a upper endoscopy that ruled out celiac and several other digestive issues. The Gastro then ordered ultrasounds, which found a 5cm cyst in my ovary and a "lesion" in my uterus. I have been off of my diet for less then 2 months and I feel like I am dying. I have reverted to that person I was before I went on the endo diet. I sleep all of the time, I never want to do anything, and I am so grumpy! I can't get in to see the gyno for another month. I am back to being scared. I still don't know what is causing this. I keep having that thought pop up that what if it is cancer? What if they have to remove my ovaries, and I am never able to have my own children? I try to talk to people about it and they just don't get it. I was so hoping that it wasn't endo and that I could just pop a pill and make everything better. Now, it is starting to look more and more like it might be. I don't know how I will be able to wait a whole month.
