Girls! I am embarking on my journey to apply to D.O. medical schools! I am still waiting on my MCAT scores but I am applying to 10 D.O. schools total and they are all over the country. I'm so excited and I can't wait to find out where I'll be going!
Also, if you're currently looking for a physician, I highly recommend seeing a D.O. ;D

Yay! Good luck! When does the actual interview process start? I know the whole process is long, but you'll take it in stride!

Jenaya, Im very excited after reading your posts here! I have been looking for a doc just like the one portrayed in the you tube video but have yet to find one. Ive been to a couple of D.O.'s and my experience has been very different (so far). The first doc was trained in functional medicine and was out of pocket. He was very into supplements and at the time I could not swing it financially. The second D.O. was covered by insurance. I tried explaining to her that I thought I had a thyroid problem (which the first D.O. had suggested).... had gained 30 pounds over the course of about 4 months, etc. She suggested that i go on weight watchers. (At the time, I was eating Paleo.) I never returned to to her offiice after that.
My question is this: how do I find a D.O that does the manipulations and takes the more holistic approach that I am looking for? The pelvic restrictions that the girl in the video has is similar to what I struggle with. Ive been seeing a chiropractor for several years now, as well as holistic practitioners who do integrative manual therapy. Maybe a good D.O. could help me address all of my health concerns. So many times, health issues are closely linked.
Any ideas?

I usually just find them through Google. It's hard to find one that still uses OMM in their practice. I think a lot of the reason why they are out of pocket is because insurance won't cover OMM treatments. Have you seen a pelvic physical therapist? There should be tons of D.O.'s in Missouri because there are two medical schools there. One in Kansas City and one in Kirksville. I think that's far from you though

I actually live in Sacramento now and found this www.academyofosteopathy.org/node/26510Kenten P Wang, DO His secondary specialty is OMM/NMM. I have done something similar to pelvic physical therapy....manual visceral therapy. And it was working well until I had some major breakthrough bleeding on my continuous BCP. Now we are trying to change the BCP. In addition to my endo fun, I have thyroid and adrenal dysfunction. It would be nice to find a practitioner that could help with both..... THAT, I would pay out of pocket for any day.

Ohh I hope he works out!
There is a little gray area in terminology when it comes to osteopathy and osteopathic medicine. In other countries a doctor of osteopathy is a doctor that is only trained in OMM but is not a licensed physician like an MD. In the United states, an osteopathic physician is exactly like an MD but has additional training in OMM. I think you should be fine though with the doctor you found because he's a D.O. and he's in the U.S. Other countries however, you may encounter both and have to figure out which license they have.

Here is a cool video of an osteopathic physician treating an autistic child. The mother tells a story about how they saw specialist after specialist for all of his various ailments and how not one doctor put them all together and considered them as a whole until she saw this D.O. The doctor stresses the importance of considering the body has being interconnected. video.mpbn.net/video/2164509032/

That is wonderful. I have worked with so many autistic children, and have always been heartbroken about teh treatment they receive, particularly in underserved communities and wacked-out schools. This is really inspiring.
