My husband seems to have problems with either his body making too much ear wax, or his ear canals being funny shaped and not able to dispell it. He has had to get his ear wax removed at the doctor before, but the last time he did that was years ago (before we met, so at least 6 years). He has been complaining of not being able to hear well and feeling like there's a "bubble" inside his ear, so tonight we tried to fix it.
We put hydrogen peroxide in his ear and let it sit for a while, and eventually little pieces of brown wax would come floating up. We did this about a dozen times when finally the big piece came up. This sucker was seriously at least a cm cubed. Effing nasty as sh*t, and usually gross things intrigue me. I'm one of those freaks who has to sit and stare at the pore strip for like 15 minutes after I take it off of my nose.
I didn't think to take a picture of it because I was just so grossed out, but right before it came out and I was wiping some flakes from his outer ear, he goes "This is love... helping your spouse clean out their ear wax." Then he asked if I'd empty his anal glands and I gave him a dirty look. (I have to do this regularly for the dog, as well as clean her ears.)

Ha!
And I sympathize with your hubby, have had problems with my ears all my life... I've had to do the provide trick many times when I was growing up! I've done the ear candling a lot, too. Still not sure if it really does anything, but it feels good to get some warmth in there!
So do humans have anal glands??

Ha ha, love this! I think our husbands have twin ears! We bought ear candles online the other day to try, but haven't gotten around to using them. I'm so gonna try the H2O2 thing; is it just 3%?
As for you know it's love when... after spending most of yesterday rubbing my lower back for me trying to work trapped wind down so I could fart (the whole while going "come on, babe, you can do it...that's it...good girl!!"); last night my husband stayed beside me in the bathroom for half an hour, murmuring words of encouragement and asking what he could do to help while I had my first (very painful) post-op bowel movement. Bless him.
What are anal glands?

Jenaya, you literally made me LOL.
Anal glands are ducts that carry a fluid used to mark territory, and they empty right near the anus. Dogs and cats use them regularly. All mammals have anal glands--I looked it up last night. We just don't really use ours. And since they empty near the anus, when I have to help Alee with hers, I have to put on a glove, lube up my finger and stick it in her butt, find the gland and squeeze. And that fluid is really, really awful smelling. But she can't do it on her own (some dogs can't), so if I don't do it she is in pain.
The peroxide we used is 3%. The first time, I poured some in while he was laying on his side and let it soak in for about 5 minutes. After that I would pour a little in (really just enough to fill the ear canal, it only takes about half a capful), and massage it. I've gotten really good at ear canal massages since I have to clean the dog's ears once a week. Pulling on the outer ear (gently!) and moving it back and forth helps, as well as massaging the tragus (fleshy part that sticks out from your cheek) and behind the lobe. Be ready for some nastiness if your husband has bad ears. We tried it on me and got nothing.

Thanks for the lesson on anal glands and the ear mining instructions, Heather. We're gonna try it tomorrow; I'll let you know how it goes.
