Hi everyone. I had a question about the the wheat/dairy/sugar free diet. It's really hard for me to stay away from these things 24/7. Is there a specific time to be strict about this diet or is it an all or nothing deal? When I know my period is about to start, I cut off all these things right away...what do you think?

It's really up to you. You can test them all individually and find out what effects you. Then, if you feel like eating something that does effect you, you just have to realize that you will be in pain or have bowel problems or whatever.

I agree with heather - depends on how your body reacts to each thing. For me, sugar isn't as big of a deal unless I over do it, but gluten almost always kicks my ass. You get out of it what you put into it, and if you do benefit from cutting things out of your diet, your body will let you know whenever you cheat. Just depends on what's more important - being able to eat certain foods or having fewer symptoms. Your call. Is there anything in particular you're having a hard time with? There are lots of substitutes out there.

I should also add - I think ANY woman with endo owes it to herself to try the endo diet for at least a few weeks. I don't think anyone loves to restrict their diet, but for a lot of us, the endo diet significantly reduces symptoms and that's the main motivation for sticking to it most of the time. Unless you've tried it strictly for a few weeks, you have no idea how much better you might feel. For me, the significant reduction in symptoms TOTALLY makes up for having to give up some foods that I used to love. It gives a lot of us SO much more control over this disease than any pain pill, hormone, or surgery could ever do. It's one of the best things you can try to help yourself. Not everyone has huge success with it, but unless you really give it your all, you'll never know!

Like others have mentioned the easiest way for me was to cut out certain foods for a few weeks and then try them again to see how I felt. I can tell you now that gluten makes me feel absolutely awful. I very rarely eat it because it makes me feel so horrible. I eat a little dairy here and there, but not much because that also makes my body angry. Sugar doesn't bother me to much unless I eat a bunch of it. I still have chocolate every now and then, but I try to watch my sugar intake as well. I hope you at least try the diet and see how it goes. I've seen really positive effects from it and I know many other ladies here have as well. If you need any suggestions or foods to eat let me know. Good luck.
