Hi all,
I've been reading more and more on the endo diet, and getting a little bit depressed because it seems that, for the most part, I already follow it. We eat really healthy because my husband struggles with weight, and I just feel like crap if I eat crap. But, I am sort of having the feeling that I might not experience much relief through the endo diet. For those of you all that have tried it, I'd love some advice on what I'm doing wrong or what I should try differently?
1. I've been vegetarian since I left home at 17. K - 12 of govt-subsidized school lunch will make anyone vegetarian.
2. We cook almost all of our meals from scratch--lots of fresh fruit and vegetables (I love kale in particular and go through about 1.5 family-sized bags a week. We also belong to a community farm and pick up a huge pile of seasonal fresh foods weekly).
3. Proteins: beans/lentils, hummus, cheese, tofu, yogurt (fat free), and those various fake-meat products (morning star farms is a favorite brand)
4. Grains: brown rice, bulgur wheat, quinoa, couscous (big and little), pasta. I make our bread, and tend to use quinoa flour. I do use yeast when I make bread though.
5. desserts--almost never. If at all, ones that I make (generally when some fruit is threatening to go bad). Or, tin teh summer, ice cream occasionally.
6. Alcohol--we drink casually, 1 - 2 drinks a couple of times a week. Generally beer or bourbon, occasionally wine.
7. Caffeine--we have 1 cup of coffee in the morning. No more for me--I get the jitters!
8. Foods that make me sick (I'd always before thought that this was because of acid reflux or something, but now I wonder)--anything over-processed and anything that has high fat/oil that isn't olive oil. We cook with olive oil and make our own salad dressings, etc, and olive oil doesn't bother me. But pizza, onion rings, chinese food out, mexican food out, etc--all of those things make me feel terrible, and pretty instantly sick.
Thanks for any and all help! And I'll try to post a picture of myself here, because I'm still too much of an idiot to get my picture to come up in my profile. I feel a bit rude to be lurking here incognito.Hope the picture works here!
