Hi everyone, I started "eliminating" foods from my diet 1 wk ago. No gluten, no red meat and very little dairy (almost none, just yogurt). Also, watching sugar. Eating lots more fruit and vegetables. Only caffeine is 1 cup of green tea that has ginseng and lemon in it. I do take Juice PLus supplements, vit. C, sometimes D, and flaxseed oil tablets. My problem is I am having some...sorry....constipation! Also, I am feeling more sleepy, too. I don't know if the sleepiness has to do with the diet or not ( I do have 3 little girls to keep me busy!) For many years I got sick after eating breakfast...usually bouts of diarrhea. I tried oatmeal a couple mornings and discovered that was no good. I believe I might have a gluten/wheat sensitivity! I'm also running out of ideas of what to eat and cook to replace my bread/sweet cravings! Good news is I also lost 4 lbs! and I've started a walking exercise video.

Oh, I should add that I had my appendix out almost a month ago. But, I'm pretty sure I'm recovered from that?? The doctor said I could feel "tired" for a couple months. But I WAS feeling good...so I decided to go for the new diet and exercise.

Hey girl, I bet it is the change to new diet that is confusing your system, have you thought of just adding metamucil or other fiber to your morning? congrats on starting some new steps toward better health! I know it's rough but it will make you sooooo happy down the road. hang in there! We do have a recipe thread cjlevett.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diet&action=display&thread=4516and recipe ideas cjlevett.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=diet&action=display&thread=2835&page=6and there's also a book you can order although I haven't yet. I have a bunch of books on natural approaches to healing and detox, all of them say that your sugar and carb cravings are normal when you cut things out so it's a matter of getting through them, but it's realy normal to feel that way. I eat a lot of dark chocolate when I get cravings as well as fresh fruit and occasionally gluten free cookies! It's a big challenge changing your life like this but want to congratulate you for a good start and encourage you to keep it up. Karen and I are always saying this but changing my diet helped me get off daily narcotics for pain, and I'm so grateful I found this website to encourage me to try it... keep it up girl! ps I can't do oatmeal either! I even bought 'gluten free' oats and they give me a big fat tummyache! rats.

When I first changed my diet I felt all weird and slow too. I think it may just be an adjustment. Good for you for trying a natural treatment though! It's not easy to do!

For me, the first week was HELL and I was bloated beyond belief! It takes a bit for your body to adjust! There's a tea Jenaya suggests for constipation but I don't recall the name. Stick with it, though, and you'll be totally amazed at how your new body feels!

Thanks everyone! I do think some of my "tired" is post surgery. Last week I kept getting little twinges of pain around my incision site---only at night when I was sleeping. So maybe my body reacting to the exercise? I'm going to try the Metamucil if I keep having trouble. I plan on buying the cookbook pretty soon, too. and trying to make time to print out some of the other recipes on this forum. The tough part is going to be this Easter weekend when I do my "Easter bunny" shopping for the girls. I try not to buy lots of candy, but of course, they expect some. Especially those peanut butter cups are irresistible! And my parents are coming to visit and expecting somewhat of a polish Easter dinner! I'm doing chicken and kielbasa! Is that funny or what?

Yep gotta have me some chocolate it's my cheat of choice. It's amazing to me how much I enjoy this diet, just being able to choose my poison, and being 'good' the rest of the time, is so empowering. I really do notice too when I eat something new how it affects me, becuase the 'bad' foods are the exception not the rule, so I'm really able to pinpoint what things do to me. Last night I ate a bowl of Peanut Butter Puffins (corn cereal) with rice milk and I don't know if it was the sugar or the corn but I got super bloated almost immediatly and went to bed with a tummyache! But at least I knew what it was from, sort of, so takes the insane guesswork out of the equation!

Ok, I cheated a little today. Poor planning on my part. Made a pot roast for the family (had to, it was already thawed out). And I didn't make an alternative for me. So, I just ate a little tiny bit with TONS of carrots and broccoli, and a little gravy on the meat. And I got a slight headache! Think it was the meat?? Also, gals I"m SOOO sleepy! It's not even 7:30 and I could check out!

I found myself sleepiest when I excluded all meats, and for me, long term, that didn't work out for me. So now I focus on organic lean proteins. If you're super sluggish, might be something to consider. As long as there wasn't any flour in the gravy, you may have been ok with your meal!!

I'm only excluding red meat. And my freezer/fridge is stocked with alot of seafood, which fortunately everyone in my family loves. There probably was some gluten in the meat gravy because it was from a can of cream of mushroom soup. I usually am "on the go" all day, no naps, maybe stopping for a cup of tea around 3pm. Maybe my extra early sleepiness was due to the new diet and I've been exercising a whole lot more. Did 2 miles yesterday, and today (walk at home video). I wonder if tomorrow I should do only 1 mile? I don't want to overdo it but I don't want to get lazy about the exercise either.

I am new to the strict diet thing and after getting a big fat negative after my 3rd try at IVF I decided I really need to change my diet. Do you think it is easier to go cold turkey and just get rid of all the things you are not supposed to eat/drink or do you think it is easier to do an elimination diet one by one?
For me the idea of no coffee is killing me. It is a treat for me and I like it once to twice a week but I guess it has to be done!

Ooh, good luck & welcome aboard the diet train! I know the posts are scattered but we have several members that wound up pregnant a few months into the endo diet! I went cold turkey (not ttc) and just got the withdrawal/food cravings all over with at once but others need some time to ease into. I should mention, though, that you might see the quickest results going cold turkey, which can be a HUGE motivation!
