so i've been on a pretty restrictive form of the diet (no wheat, dairy, meat, soy, caffeine, alcohol (well a little of that)) since i think early or mid January. well i fell off the wagon Monday, having cookies, bread and cheese. then on Tuesday i had some bread and chocolate. oh my god today does my belly hurt! it did those days too, but it is bloated out 8 months prego today. i thought i had been feeling better on the diet, complaining less, though i don't think i'll ever say i'm 100%. but boy o boy how quickly i forgot this pain! my belly used to feel like this every day! i guess i have to say i'm a believer now. has anyone else had this epiphany? (sp?) just curious. thanks!

I can definitely tell a difference between when I eat the foods I am supposed to and when I eat junk. When I eat the junk food I get bloated, tired, pain, and just feel bad all over. I am definitely a believer of the diet.

I was on the diet last month and it was *WONDERFUL*...however I'm severely anemic and the no meat thing took it's toll on me. Ended up in the hospital because I passed out at work. I need to find the correct balance of supplementing myself and trying to stick to the diet. We'll see how it goes next month! This month however I tried to put some weight back on. Has anyone found a good balance of how to stick to the diet and maintain your weight?

Has anyone found a good balance of how to stick to the diet and maintain your weight? sadly, i have not lost much weight on the diet. maybe a pound or two. i'm eating more nuts and olive oil and other things of natural fat that make up for the veggies. i have a feeling over time i will even out though. i'm only about 5-10lbs over what i'd like to be now anyway. as far as anemia. i've been tired for years! i've actually not eaten meat for about three years. not for diet, but since i work at a veterinary clinic i feel bad eating furry animals! i did a blood test in january to see if my b vitamin levels were low. the doc said no, but my iron was. not sure if due to not eating meat, or not being able to absorb nutrients, or what. she put me on a script of iron pills, 1 twice a day. and i feel so much better! i feel it is due to the iron pills and the endo diet - both of which i started around the same time. are you on iron pills?

Yes, now I'm back on iron pills and feeling soooo much better. There's only been a few days this month where the fatigue has really gotten to me. Now I take a vitamin c packet with added b12, a mulit (w/out iron), and 160mg iron supplement daily. I also juice everymorning using 2 organic carrots and 2 org apples with a tablespoon of org flax oil. This month I have been eating (kind of) whatever I want to put some weight back on, but next month I'm going to try again, but incorporate a little bit of meat this time. I'm not to keen on eating furry animals either but unfortunately my body doesn't function properly without it. I try to eat as much dark leafy greens as I can so I don't have to eat as much meat as they're packed with iron. I dunno...we'll see how it goes!

you could try making sure your having vit c with every meal, supplemental or from whole foods, will increase iron absorption. And avoid having tea of coffee close to meal times, allow at least an hour after eating, and half hour before.

I usually take the vitamin c packet 2x/day but that sounds like a better idea to take it with meals! Thanks KB...

Iron pills are great if you're doing a vegetarian or vegan diet, but iron is more easily absorbed through meat sources. The difference is the specific chemical make-up of the iron. Veggie and pill iron is non-heme iron, and meat iron is heme-iron. You have to eat a lot more non-heme iron to get the benefit of a smaller amount of heme iron. Here's a link with a fuller explanation. ibdcrohns.about.com/cs/nutrition/a/fdairon.htm. Naturally, if the endo diet is working for you, reintroducing meat and seafood might not be an option. The supplements and plenty of beans and leafy greens should be enough. I hope you feel better soon! PS--to answer your original question, yes, before I was pregnant, I didn't do the whole endo diet, but I cut out gluten, and what a difference! :-D If I had bread or anything with flour, I was in pain the next day. If I didn't, I was fine. Now that I'm pregnant, though, all I want is carbs! Luckily, no pain so far.

To be honest, the diet doesn't seem to change anything for me. Well, I mean, I can't be sure entirely because I became vegan almost 12 years ago. There were major changes that resulted from that, but endo pain wasn't something that I remember changing. Back then I hadn't started getting pain before my period yet though. And when I did have my period, I don't recall it feeling any different. Pretty much the only things left to cut out are wheat and soy. And there were times that I did do this--because I was McDougalling--but I didn't notice any difference then either. Be nice if it did work for me, but I can handle it now anyway, so it's all good.
I've been anemic all my life, so every now and then I supplement my diet with beets. I had stuff prescribed for it before but they did nothing for me. The beets really work though. Like when I first found out that I had PCOS, I started testing my blood glucose every week. The first week, I had to struggle to get even the half of a drop out of my finger, so I went out and bought beets. My mother had actually told me about it because she had a severely anemic friend who used it to build back up her and her mom's blood count. Well, within 2 weeks, the blood was pretty much gushing out, so I was convinced. My naturopath told me not to overdo it though. He said to have no more than 1/4 of a beet everyday, and I follow his advice. I can't remember anymore why he said too much was bad though. I've been eating it on and off throughout my pregnancy though I haven't had it in a couple months. Still, I got my test results yesterday and they don't show that I'm anemic, so that's pretty awesome.

I haven't tried the endo diet in full, but I do notice that whevever I have the occasional glass of wine or any red meat I definitely get pain afterwards. So I basically don't have them now! I find it sooooo tough to cut out sugar, in fact to be honest I've completely failed at doing this. I did notice pain one day after I sprinkled some sugar on my porridge. I'm guessing it was because it was white, unrefined sugar that kind of hit me directly because it was pure like that. Bad idea.
