Hi, I'm new to the area, and endo. I see most of you see Dr. Belizan. I checked with his office and wouldn't be able to see him until mid to late Jan. I have an appt. in 2 weeks with Dr. Littman in Rockville. Does anyone have any experience with him? I was already impressed with the fact that his number goes directly to him. He agreed that I needed to see a specialist. Any input would be great. Thanks.

Welcome!!! Hey I'm a scorpio too! That means your birthday was recent or it's coming up? I've never seen Dr. Littman and don't know much about him :/ Keep us updated on if he's good though! There seems to be a bunch of us on here from DC so any list of a good doc would be awesome!

OH MY GOOOOOODDDDD!!! YOU GUYSSS!!!!! I met the most AMAZING DOCTOR EVER today!!!! I am in a club called Pre-SOMA which stands for Pre- Student Osteopathic Medical Association, and we have speakers who come in to talk to us from time to time. Today we had this woman who is a D.O. that works at the Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Maryland Baltimore. SHE IS AMAZING and think she's like an angel for all of us and I really really really think some of us should go see her because I think she can help us! Her name is Dr. Lauren Richter D.O. She also has a master's degree in acupuncture. This center of integrative medicine is all about holistic medicine and treating the patient as a whole and they really stress the importance of really listening and to their patients and having a personal relationship with each one. What blew me away the most is that when you are a new patient, your first consult with her IS AN HOUR LONG!!! An ENTIRE HOUR! She sits and talks to you about everything in your life, then does a physical exam. Can you believe and HOUR with a doctor who just sits and listens? ?? She has a very special and unique background. She is a cancer survivor herself and after doing cancer treatment she never regained her energy levels back so she went to a couple different doctors to ask for help and they pushed antidepressants on her. She decided that she would rather deal with the fatigue than take the drugs. Then one day she tried acupuncture and it fixed her! Since then she was sold on acupuncture, and went to school to become a doctor and specifically, a doctor that treated people in a more natural way that stressed nutrition, mental health, and overall well being. OMG she was so wonderful! I felt like hugging her and thanking her for coming to talk to us because she basically brought to me my calling. I WANT TO DO WHAT SHE DOES!! Integrative medicine!!! I'm SO excited! The way she talked about her typical day on the job was AMAZING. She just loves her patients and genuinely loves helping people. PLEASE if you are looking for a doctor, please consider seeing this woman. She was so amazing I almost cried!! So here is her information. She is WONDERFUL!!! She gave me her personal email address so I can contact her to shadow her for a day. I'm SO EXCITED!! This is it!! This is what I want to do!!! www.compmed.umm.edu/Lauren_Richter,_D_O_,_M__Ac_.asp

Jenaya, so glad that she was so inspiring for you. Also glad to know there is a good option fairly close. But I'm glad that you've refound so clearly why you're doing all of this. It's great!

Kristin! I'll drive you to see her! She's amazing! She talked about how she treats pelvic pain too. She said she treats a lot of migraine people too and for the most part, people walk in with migraines and walk out pain free. She was sooooo wonderful. I LOVED her. I can't wait to shadow her.

I know all you guys are DC people, but do you know of any baltimore specialists? I don't have a car, so going out of town isn't great for me, and I'm having a lot of trouble finding someone. So far I've decided to talk to this lady: www.mdmercy.com/womens/gynecologyCenter/lynch.html but I can't find anything about anyone specializing in endo or doing excision surgery around here. I know that doesn't mean that there isn't someone, but i'm having a hard time searching. My boyfriend's parents live in ny, so i was actually thinking about that supposedly great doctor up there, but I don't know how out of state insurance works, and i'm super poor, so i probably can't afford it :/

Hey, I think the incredible doctor that Jenaya met last week is in baltimore--check out the link above? She's a different type of doctor, but (to me) sounds like something really exciting to try.

She's a family medicine/integrative medicine specialist but yes, she's in Baltimore. She is really good with chronic pain. If I were sick or needing medical treatment right now I'd be knocking down her door. I have her name handy if I need a doctor that's for sure.

That doctor does sound really great, and I will probably check her out!! Right now though, i'm really looking for a skilled surgeon to actually remove my endometrioma, and maybe remove some other stuff.

I need to try to find more specialists in this area since there are so many of us here. I like Dr. Belizan for surgery and serious stuff. If I wanted more natural treatments then I'd probably go to Dr. Richter. I'll dig around and see if I can find some more specialists in this area.

Hey Kristin did you go to the women's surgery center for your last surgery? These people are supposed to be specialists but I don't know much about them other than what I found on a Google search. www.womenssurgerycenter.com/about/our-team/

Yes, I did go to them. I had surgery with Dr. Lii. I think she probably was a fine surgeon, but really really bad at communicating. The only information that I got from her was that I "had stage 4 endo"--not where, etc. I had to get the surgery report to get that. I kept trying to ask questions to get more information, but she sort of acted like that wasn't information that I needed. After the mirena didn't work, she pushed lupron heavily and basically told me that if I didn't do lupron, she couldn't help me. so, I didn't go back. I think another member found some unfortunate information on Dr. MacKoul (sp?), the main one in the group.
However, if you have a set bunch of things you want removed, they do remove endo efficiently and you can get in quickly. They use adept after the surgery to help with adhesions. I found this out in the surgery report too--Dr. Lii didn't tell me!

Sigh... Well it looked promising for a second there. I still think Dr. Richter is a good option for natural treatments. Then surgery with either the women's surgery center or Dr. Belizan. At least we can choose either I guess.

Ughh, that seems like a crummy experience, and kind of reminds me of my doctor, except my doctor didn't even really remove anything. Though, i guess, my doctor DID show me pictures of stuff on my insides, and talk to me about the surgery before telling me i needed lupron. But he was otherwise really horrible at communicating! I made an appointment with the doctor I linked above, so I guess we'll see how she is! She was on the local news for diagnosing and removing some lady's endo, so i'm hoping she's good. ALSO, I was going to make an appointment with Dr. Richter, but it seems like her office is located in the county, so I probably wouldn't be able to get there. BUUUUT I found this other acupuncture/chinese medicine guy in walking distance to where I live, and he sounds really good too! He was voted baltimore's best acupuncture in 2010, and has ALL 5 star costumer ratings and reviews when i google his name. I have never seen that before for anyone! mtvernonwellness.com/tom-ingegno-licensed-acupuncturistMade an appointment, I'm excited to try acupuncture!
