I agree, Jenaya. Karen is just taunting us!!!!!!
I have been having the weirdest cravings for beer lately. I was never even a big beer drinker, but what can you do. Cravings are SO weird.

Hahahaha Jenaya!
I've been having cravings too. I'm about to start my period so that's why. I've been lusting after all sort of pastries and breads lately. Dang it gluten why do you hate me so much. Someone needs to create a gluten free baguette that is amazing. Then I would be a happy girl!

I try to pay attention to my cravings. If I'm craving a certain food I try to think of what that food is rich in and try to find a substitute. Like if I'm craving meat I'll assume I need protein and iron. I crave cheese a lot too so maybe I need calcium. Who knows! Sometimes it helps me rationalize my cravings so I don't go crazy. LOL Sweets are hard to judge but maybe we do need a little sweet stuff occasionally! Bread kills me. UGH.

I pay attention to cravings too--I'm actually really clear in my cravings. and I'm normally protein and iron too, and vit Bs. I crave kale, peanut butter, nuts, etc.
But craving beer? WTF is in beer?

That's a good point ladies. I've actually never really thought of it that way. I've been craving salty foods lately too big time. Do you all think that means something?

Funny, I crave the same stuff! I totally DIEEEEE if I don't have meat. I get super crazy irritable. That's why I really can't go vegetarian because I literally turn into a raging cannibal monster. LOL! If you crave salts Nicolle then maybe you need more electrolytes? Coconut juice is my favorite for a healthy electrolyte drink. Gatorade does the same thing but it's full of artificial flavors and food coloring which I try to avoid.

Hmmmmmm beer..... it's pretty loaded in carbs and sugar too aside from the wheat. Alcohol? LOL I wouldn't mind some of that right now since I just took a biochemistry exam from hell!

yeah, I think I just want a beer because I want a beer but I can't have one--that's a good enough reason for a craving!
but Paint, if you're craving salt, look for foods high in potassium and magnesium also, as those are often lost also in sweat or with physical activity. I'm very active and have to work hard to keep these levels ok. Craving salt cal also be a sign of low blood pressure or thyroid/adrenal issues, I think, but I'll let someone with more experience weigh in on that.
Hah, maybe I'm craving beer because of the salt!

^ Yes, craving for salt can be an adrenal issue. Aldosterone (via adrenals) helps regulate salt levels and if I recall, low aldosterone levels can mean the body is excreting too much sodium, throwing the electrolyte balance off. Low blood pressure fits into that as well.
Of course, salt cravings are common for PMS!

Yeah aldosterone helps retain sodium so if it's low then you're not getting enough because you're peeing it all out! Hmmmm interesting!

I did afew cheats last week, first time in 4 mths since totally changing my diet. Went to a chinese buffet on Friday, made a boo boo and bought these Japanese icecream ball things from trader joes and after I ate ½ the box realized that there was wheat in them. Went to lunch yesterday and wanted to try the sauce that was just regular not GF and man, it sure triggered a response. My left ovary was tugging, my back was sore and this morning I woke up to use the potty and had fresh blood. This was a major light bulb moment for me since going GF and mostly endo diet for the past 4 mths – it totally triggered an inflammatory response. Well, this was confirmation for me that I’m doing all the right things for my body and eating those things was bad news.

Loveshoes,
I think we all slip up. I am still doing process of elimination. I miss a lot of my favorites but you are right you don't realize what a difference the diet makes until you slip up and cheat.
I love Chinese and that has been a hard one for me as well. I have changed to steamed chicken and steamed veggies. My Chinese place knows me very well (LOL) so they made a dipping brown sauce for me with no MSG. I only use a tiny bit for flavor but I have grown to love it and it doesn't bother me.
I switched to turkey burgers also and to my surprise I liked them.

I went to the farmer's market this weekend and, since I was really missing cheese, specifically asked for a sheep's milk cheese to avoid cow's milk. I've been trying a few goat/sheep cheeses from the store but haven't fallen in love. One of the kids working the stand gave me a few suggestions and I tried a few samples. I settled on one that was really nice and made myself a grilled cheese sandwich on GF bread and used coconut oil instead of butter. It was heaven. And then... I looked at the package... It clearly says Sheep Milk Cheese in large letters, but in the description, says it's made from half sheep and half cow milk! Grr!!! Now I have this really weird rash on the insides of my elbows - a ton of red bumps in a nice oval shape and they're a bit swollen. And they itch! Sigh.
