I spent a bit of time at the gym yesterday, working my legs and back. The exercises I do, and having high resistance for cycling means that I usually tense my tummy a little without noticing. I did feel a slight wreching pain aroung my middle and on my left when I moved away from the leg press and again later when I got off the bike, and later found I had bled a little bit, but scarily my stomach had swelled up to looking 3 months pregnant and I had trouble doing up my jeans. It is still swollen now, but much less and is only uncomfortable with the odd twinge. My body is at the menstruation part of the cycle but due to my Mirena there is no womb lining. Has anyone experienced this (outside of menstruation, when it would not be advisable to exercise too heavily anyway) I had an op back in August which removed most of the endo. Bit worrying as I've already had other pains to signal the endo returning but this bleeding is something I have not experienced before. The swelling is all too familiar

Yeah it's kinda getting to me now. Luckily I've been at home since so no jeans (I'm into skinny jeans so they tend to be tight with very little give), but now the discomfort is growing and my tummy still hasn't gone down! I feel really tired just now too, but that may be due to my period. Pulling my tummy in still works (I can make it look flat) but it actually makes it more uncomfortable and it's actually starting to hurt. What I'd give to see what's going on in there! Think I'll have to see my doctor tomorrow... if I can get my pants on that is! My sister asked me if I was pregnant, bit ironic really

:\ I know how you feel!! Lets invent a scope so we can see inside our bellies. I'm curious as well.
I hope you feel better, though. Keep us updated.

Cherry I have had the same problem. I was very ambitious and feeling so well a couple of months ago, that I began doing this exersie program for beginners that worked the abdominals. Big mistake, I felt the same pains you described, began bleeding and my tummy swelled up. Grrr..how annoying

Yeah it's looking to be an ongoing problem. If this is what is gonna happen then frankly it's too depressing to bear. Exercise does a lot for me and I can't imagine going without it now. I did chest yesterday, which only took additional effort from my arms say esp the triceps and then some work on the bike and the cross trainer, and it happened again. Slight bleeding, discomfort in the abdomen but when I got home, agonising pain for 5 minutes I really thought something bad had happened! Tummy is swollen again but after 5 days it just seems like the norm. I keep delaying seeing my doctor. I know what he will say and really I don't want to stop going to the gym.

I haven't been to the gym in a few months now. I found it wiped me out beyond exhausted and did the same thing to my tummy - made it hurt! I often wonder how it is that something that *should* be making us feel better makes us feel worse.
What about swimming Cherry? Its low impact but offers a great workout!!

Hi Cherry- I have had the Mirena for coming up close to a year now. I have found that I am beginning to "cycle" a bit...I couldn't find a pattern to my pain or spotting before, now about every six weeks I feel like I am having a period. Its a fraction of a real period, but its something. Anyway, I also feel pain and tension in my uterus (as opposed to my colon or ovaries where I have a lot pain still) as well as spotting after I have either done a lot of walking, vacuuming, running up and down the stairs (at work) or, after sex. I don't work out at a gym so I can't relate directly to that. I don't have pain when I do yoga (and when I have pain I don't do yoga...) and I think it is, like you said, the belly muscles don't tense during yoga and a lot of the positions actually open up the groin area. Anyway, a long paragraph to say, "me too"

Haha thanks Camille. Gosh I feel I've opened a can of worms here. There's been quite a return to pain compared to the last few months. I don't know if I've caused it with the exercise or if I'm more aware now that my attention is brought to my huge belly. I've been happy to ignore things since my op. Low impact will have to be the way forward but Tess I'm so shy of my body, I don't even own a bikini or even a one piece. Lately my asian genes have been kicking in (my Bangladeshi relatives are rather short and dumpy) so I'm even more self conscious as my thighs and bum are taking on their own fat-accumulation regime! I have this weird mixture of extreme self-consciousness and a glow of pride with going to the gym. I made an appointment with my doctor for tomorrow... should get blood results back to see why I've been so blah for 4 months. Invariably it'll be 'stress' :/ I do find that the exercise wipes me out, but after the sickly constant tiredness I've had, the settled sleep feels so healthy and normal for me. Just a shame that going tp the gym means I'm too tired to even read sometimes Will definitely have to try swimming and yoga or pilates. Due to my moody knees running is out of the question but sometimes a pretend jog on the cross-trainer can be mind-numbingly soothing cough*boring*cough ahem!

Lol. I know how you feel. I've been telling my bf that we need to go to the pool every evening since Monday. I've shot up from a size 4 to a size 10 since last July - largely in part to the norethindrone I'm guessing, as my blood work for my thyroid is apparently normal. But when you come home from work and school and the like. . . the last thing you want to do is go and be active!
And by the way, you are self conscious! Why? I think you are a beautiful young woman and should be showing off everything you've got!!

Tess you are too sweet! I have deep seated self-image issues, coupled with my weird pear-shaping weight gain and the fact that the men at my gym are major pervs, I am pretty self conscious even using the machines in the main gym room! To go slightly off topic, I am gaining weight and inches on my thighs even though I'm exercising. Frustrating! Right so I didn't see my doctor in the end. I keep putting it off. The pain has increased and it's just like full-blown endo again. I'm so unhappy. My tummy is still swollen, I have severe pain on my left at intervals and a constant deep ache, as well as back pain. Add to that the bloody mucus (sorry about tmi!) and it looks like I'm back to square one. The pain before my op was terrifying and it looks like I'm heading straight for that already. I'm worried I caused it by trying to pretend I could do my normal exercises and ignoring the fact that my abdomen is the be all and end all! I better see my doctor on Tuesday anyway, the pain is getting worse so I have no choice. I have really messed this up guys!

Hi Cherry, I was wondering if you ever went to the doc and what you found out??? Hope you're feeling better! I just went to the gym during my lunch period for the first time since my surgery in September. I only did 15 minutes of walking, some stretching, and about 60 crunches. Within an hour of getting back to work my belly is swollen and I have the all too familiar back and mid section pain. Very light horsebacking hasn't seemed to bother me much, but I'm guessing working my abs was a little much. I feel ya...if we can't exercise to keep our bodies (and our minds!) healthy, what the heck is a girl to do? I guess I'll take tomorrow off and try again on Thursday or Friday. Maybe lay-off on the abdominal work until I get a little back into shape?

Perhaps you should try pelvic massage. It seems that perhaps after your surgery a lot of internal scar tissue formed/is forming. Perhaps it needs to be loosened up. By the way whenever I gain weight it is only in my tummy and I have the "apple" shape - not attractive. I would MUCH rather gain weight and have a pear shape.
