All my life, I've been small. I have been accused of being anorexic countless times, and at my heaviest, I've only weighed 100lbs (5ft 3in). I average around 96lbs most of the time, and aside from a very viscious turn with mono I've always held the weight. So, I went to the doctor last Friday. I have been having alot of llq pain & digestive 'problems' (constipation, diarhoea -together & separately, thin/small stool, nausea, vomiting, food sensitivities, lactose intolerance......). My doc ordered a small bowel series x-ray * fantastic btw , as well as blood t. for Celiac disease & stool culture. I'm waiting for the results still, so I have no definite answer. However, the reason I started this thread is b/c when the doctor weighed me, I'm at 87lbs. This is really scaring me because I don't know how it happened so fast. I have made a lot of changes to my diet, so I'm not eating as much dairy, choc., cookies, pasta, bread etc. Even when I account for those changes, it still doesn't add up. I can't afford to lose anymore weight, so I cut back on cycling, and am trying to eat more often/ snacks. Sorry if I've made a mistake by making this thread, but I'm really worried about my body. I want to be healthy, I don't have an eating disorder!! Until I find out if it's celiacs, I'm eating like usual, but I have to keep the endo in mind. I've been googling tips for gaining weight, but it's mostly about eating fried food, calories and high fat... If anyone has had this issue, I'd love feedback, even if u haven't had this prob. Any diet/excersise tips would really help me out, or p.m me as well. I've found some recipes that sound good, but aren't with gaining weight in mind. Thanks so much 4 reading/responding ~mel

I too have always been between 5-10 lbs underweight. Right now I am at a comfortable weight because I have the Mirena IUD and (I think) it has caused me to gain a few pounds, which I welcome from my 95 lbs post surgery weigh in at the doctor! (I am 5'). I did do milk shakes for a while after surgery. But I don't much like that method either, because I try to eat healthier than that and milk and I don't always agree! I eat a lot of avocado (good fat) and raw nuts, three meals plus snacks (which helps my intestinal endo issues also - to continually be digesting). Odwalla protein drinks are good. I eat organic red meat on the advice of my acupuncturist on average about once a week, although he would have me eat more. I have posted this link elsewhere but I find it incredibly helpful in determining whether or not I am getting what I need on a daily basis and finding out nutritional info on specific foods. www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=faq&dbid=28

I would say look at your protein intake. Make sure you are eating enough protein based on your activity level. When I lost weight earlier this year I lost too much too quick. I put some back on and I look way better for my height with the extra weight. I wasn't taking in enough protein and I was exercising too much. So I would look at that, maybe add some protein shakes or slimfast optima which are good and have protein.

Mel I know how you feel.. When i got really sick with my intestinal endo i got really ill and lost a lot of weight. Now I have had my surgery i am 10kilos underweight and it continues to fall off. I hope your tests bring some answers and if not i suggest you make an appointment to see a dietician as they will take it upon themself to monitor your weight and put you on a diet with the aim of you putting weight on. Sustagen is good for this too and my diettican suggested this to me. Good Luck and pm me if you wish

Well I called the doctor, and my results were negative!
I'm not sure if I'm relieved or still concerned. This means I've done all three barium tests, and all three were fine. So now what? Colonoscopy, endoscopy & sigmoidoscopy? More blood tests?
God! Do I have a parasite? I want another lap to see what the h*ll is going on in there, but my gyn says we need to wait for the GI testing, as it's less invasive than exploratory surg. I see her point, but how can she be so sure it's not the endo, or adenomyosis?
I have been in pain so much that I haven't returned to school. I'm not working right now, but I was volunteering a few times a week and struggled even with that. My entire life revolves around my health, and while my friends are finishing college and starting families, all I have is this f#*k'n illness.

^ I don't mean to come off bitter, it's just that gaining the weight still won't take away the pain. At least I wouldn't look like a world vision child lol...

I completely understand how frustrating it is... before i was diagnosed with endo noone could tell me what was wrong with me for nearly 2 years. i was losing weight i couldnt go to work and i was in pain every other day... all the tests i had came back negative. I had a endoscopy, colonoscopy all the blood work you could imagine tested for celiacs, lactose intolerance, ulcers you name it i was tested for it. It was a really horrible time in my life until i made them give me a lap and thats when they found endo on my bowels and not to mention everywhere else.
Colonoscopy doesnt really show endo, mine had gone through the bowel wall and it still didnt show it! However it would rule out other things like chrons and diverticulosis. Do you have any bowel issues at present? I cant remember if you have had a lap already?
keep persisting though despite how pointless it seems. there is obviously an underlying issue that clearly needs to be addressed. In themeantime you could probably benedit from a dietician or even a naturopath. They will conduct relevant tests.

I had my lap last November, diagnosed w endo (bladder flap, pouch of douglas, adhesions of r ovary & pelvic wall, right and left tubal obstruction, adhesions on liver). There was no endo present on the bowel at the time of surgery. As you see in my first post, these are the bowel symptoms I have at present (as of 3 hrs ago to be precise!)
Typical situation for me (an example): Last night I made a baked potato, brocoli, corn, and a small piece of steak. It included margarine, salt, 1 tsp cheese, and probiotic juice. I sat down to eat dinner, had maybe 3 bites of food and really felt like I had to go. In the bathroom, nothing happened!!! So I finished dinner and everything was fine. Today is a different story, pain in ab, l.l. q, tailbone, among other things.
The worst thing is in order to rule out IBS (the most common of all dig. illnesses) u have to go through all the tests (there are 6 if u count barium & scopes!!!) Not to mention blood work, stool samples, and other scans. How much time do we end up spending in Dr's offices, waiting rooms, surgical suites, testing labs, making appointments, waiting for results, it's ridiculous!
I have a few aquaintences who do massage, energy work, nutrition, etc. I'm trying to connect with them to get some advice. The thing is, I need to put on weight now!! I can't keep waiting for people to make time to help me, I don't know what I'm doing anymore...

Hi, Just a quick note. My weight I felt was too low at one point (although I was within the bottom end of normal on those charts)I like to be in the middle of them... Well anyway I lost my appetite because I felt rotten. Enzymes with each meal and VSL3 probiotics helped me get my appetite back and helped me digest foods better. I would recommend that and eating wholegrain rice and lots of oat based foods as well as good fats, i.e avocado and nuts and olive oil on all your food!! I would also recommend eating chicken (organic daily) and meat at least 3 times a week.
