As far as I can gather from the recommended foods on my list, and knowing of people on this diet post bowel surgery, it's basically a fibre free diet. The reason I've been prescribed this is cos I've been told I can still eat during my bowel prep (lap with excision coming up) but must follow this diet, as any fibre will make the bowel prep even more harsh. Here is what I have been told I can have (taken from Picolax leaflet)
Fats: butter, margarine
Eggs: boiled, poached
Cereal: crisped rice cereal, corn flakes (no bran)
Cheese: cream cheese, cottage cheese, cheese sauce
Potatoes (no skin): boiled, creamed, mashed, baked
Pasta: Plain macaroni, spaghetti, noodles
Rice: plain, boiled white rice
Meat and Fish: minced or well cooked tender, lean, beef, lamb, ham, veal, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish
Gravy: using stock cubes (white flour or corn flour to thicken)
Bread: white bread/toast
Sugar and Sweeteners: white sugar, brown sugar, sweetener
Dessert: clear jelly
Drinks: water, energy drinks, soda water, tea/coffee (black after lunch is bowel prep), fizzy drinks, squashes, strained fruit juices, herbal/fruit tea, clear soup, drinks made from stock cubes/meat extract

I will be a bit lost without my fruit salad and brown bread, but seeing as jelly is allowed even after I have to stop eating, I'm not too cut up I love jelly! (jell-o in the US)

i have been on this diet since my bowel surgery. It was highly recommended by my dietitian that i now see fortnightly. make sure you drink lots of water though as it is easy to get constipated. (not that i have to worry about that yet! lol)
I have also cut out all dairy and gone completely lactose free. it has made a difference with the diarrohea slightly but i need to make sure i take a multivitamin as well.

I would go crazy eating like this all the time, but needs must! Was it a big change from what you usually eat Cass, is there much that you miss, besides chocolate.

It is easy to go crazy living on a low res diet! i cant stomach the things i used to eat so its normally steamed white rice for me. It is hard not having other more interesting food items but i would rather avoid them at this stage than eat them and be running to the toilet all night.. im hoping my gut settles down and ill be able to slowly start including other things back into my diet. i miss chocolate ALOT!! I miss curries, roast potatoes (with skin!) ice cream oh how i miss ice cream!! but im getting used to having no sugar...
