If organic food seems outrageously expensive, this might be a viable alternative. An organic food co-op! Basically, farmers get together and they each plant different crops, all organically grown. Then, people who want to become members of the co-op (non-farmers) pay a monthly fee and get a HUGE box of a variety of organic produce each week! Lettuces, kale, cilantro, cucumbers, tomatoes, strawberries, avacados, peaches, and TONS more! Whatever is in season! Depending where you live, the growing season can be quite long! Oh! And some even offer organic meat from cows raised on their farms as part of the co-op! My friend and I are going to join one near where we live and split the produce. Between the two of us, it will come to about $13 a week to feed 5+ people! Wow! 20 pounds of avacados over the year, 100 pounds of broccoli, 50 baskets of strawberries! 75 pounds of tomatoes, 200 pounds of oranges, and SOOOOOO much more! And all organic!!! YUMMMMMMMMM! I can't wait! Here is a link to a website with a map that you can click on to see if you have any organic co-ops in your area...or type in your zip!!! <--easy way! www.localharvest.org/If you dont' find any, try searching online for "organic co-op" + your city.
