Also, quick question - I am (hopefully) going to get a script for BC on Friday, can I just start taking it straight away? I know you're supposed to wait for your period, but I would like to not have one if possible! I'm not using it for contraception purposes so I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem?

Double check, but I think you can just start taking it.

Unless your doc tells you otherwise then it's ok as far as my experience tells. I have started straight away unless I had to wait for a period after my GnRHa injections. I agree it's counter-productive considering the circumstances but it was for a good reason as far as was explained to me... however your periods sound so like they have such a severe impact on your health that they may think differently again. My sister swapped pills on the day she was given new formulations to try (she takes it for PCOS) also. I'm not sure why they expect women to wait for a period to start a pill, perhaps for tidiness as it's starting from day 1.

Yeah I think you can start taking them right away. I personally like to wait for my period because my body HATES to be messed with. Trying to shift cycles really messes me up. But if you are dreading a period then I would probably start taking it right away.

I'm so sorry you have had to deal with this kind of treatment Gem. This is what makes me so angry when it comes to some doctors.
I hope the the BCP bring you some much needed relief. You will be in my thoughts.

Thanks Paint, I'm still smiling I think my body will probably moan a bit, but I'm up for that if it means no periods for a while. I'll check with the doc but probably start straight away. I'm due on around the 18th so won't be too far away.

WOW Gem read thru this entire thread today and it eeerks me why we have to wait so long to be diagnosed while our body attacks itself and makes us more sick by the day. I hope the BC works for you this has been a damn roller coaster for you and so happy you still have a SMILE on your pretty face:)

So, I now have a date for my scan - 11th May, next Wednesday - my birthday!!! So I will be having an emema for a present!!!
Seriously though, that's a pretty amazing present as I've been waiting so long.
I also have the pill which I will start taking after the scan. Excited for no more periods and getting my life back a bit!!!

Fab news, other than it's your b'day! Have you been told to wait to start taking the pill?
