Hey guys! I was just reading though the diet section to see if there were any posts on the subject, but I couldn't find one... so decided to make one. I have had the same diet ALL my life... for some reason, I CANT STAND MEAT! Or pretty much any form of protein for that matter (beans, nuts...) The only form I kind of like is Tofu. The only meat I will ever eat is chicken (white meat only) and occasionally hamburger. I don't know if this has anything to do with endo... I LOVE all things WHITE (cauliflower, potatoes, rice, bread...) Could this be making my pain worse? Does a good endo diet need meat!? I have always maintained the same weight in my teens (around 140lbs) but durind the past year I have gained 40 pounds and I keep gaining! I don't know whats going on but it is making me depressed! Any thoughts?

Cauliflower is healthy, but potatoes, rice, and bread break down in to sugar very quickly. If you don't have any type of protein, you run the risk of becoming insulin resistant and then i'ts very hard to lose weight if you don't have protein. They say red meat is bad for endo, but the chicken you say that you eat is very high in protein and is not red meat. I think if you keep poultry in your diet, you'll be fine.

I have posted this elsewhere but it seems appropriate to mention here as well.
I have hated meat all my life too and wish I could live on veggies but on the advice of my acupuncturist I have started eating ORGANIC red meat. I feel the best I have felt in about a year following his advice. What he told me was this: "you can eat all the good healthy foods in the world and still not feel well because you are not eating right for your body type". According to traditional Chinese medicine, we have to treat the body, not the symptom. Endo is a symptom of what is awry in MY body. Endo can also be a symptom of other types of imbalances which would require a different diet.
He stresses organic because of the hormones found in animal products. I try to eat all organic for that reason. I avoid dairy, it hurts, and have found some ways to eat red meat that I am comfortable with. I am finding that the better my body feels, the more I like eating meat!
I think it depends on your body and your approach to healing.
I also think sugar is definitely a pain trigger for me for reason that Ouchy so, I try to avoid it.

Chicken and Tofu sound healthy enough to me, may be worth trying to make sure the chicken u eat is organic too though, a big culprit for hormones in growing chooks.
Agree with Ouchy, bread rice and potatoes are going to cause probs with ur sugar levels.
Its easily enough solved though, brown rice is good and u get used to it (i prefer it now), potatoes still can be ok but best to have sweet potato (kumera) or baby potatoes like chats. Bread is probs the harder one, but if u have wholegrain should be better for sugar levels.
Protein is important in your diet though for anyone, is important to have some protein in each meal, if u really abhor it maybe just try having some fruit chunks with natural peanut butter or tahini. Or make a fruit smoothy with yoghurt, i dont eat much meat and find these things a good solution.
Be careful of not eating red meat though, i hate eating most meat and only eat fish and kangaroo meat (yes yes u can laugh, haha), so understand ur dilemma, but im currently very anaemic and although i doubt its diet really coz i had this prob even as a teenager when i did eat meat, heavy menstrual periods can also cause this prob, so if u arent eating enough sources of iron at least have it as a supplement.

yeah... I know that if I ate better I would feel better. I feel like I am ADDICTED to carbohydrates. Whenever I work out, I always try to consume more protein... whether it be in shakes, peanut butter, tofu... whatever. But after I work out I like turn into some kind of savage (lol) and I find myself searching crazily through the kitchen for anything carb... handfuls of cereal, bread... anything. I get really tired feeling if I go a while without carbs, plus a headache and most of all CRANKY! My boyfriend wanted to go on the adkins diet and im just like NO WAY I can't do it! lol... I really feel like I am addicted to them. When I am having a craving for them, sometimes I am not even hungry, I just feel like I need them...

I can get ur obsation Nikki. I love rice and potato a lot from my childhood. YOu can get teh picture: if my mom didn't keep potato in a meal, I went crazy! But, now trying to control those as both are starchy carb and not always good for endo. I don't cook potato everyday as if its infront of me, there is no control. Also, for rice, I just heat teh needed amount, don't heat the whole boal. So, I put restriction myself. YOu can try not keep them at home so much. If you don't find infront of you, you have nothing to do. Keep some healthy foods inplace. Though u don't like it or used to it. And, after a few days, you hopefully get used to it. You can try to trick yourself....

Tofu is very high in protein. If you like it, keep on eating it. Just try not to overdo it. Too much protein is just as harmful as too little--possibly worse when you consider the damage to your bones. Vegetable starches are good, but I avoid bread. I avoid anything with ingredients that are too refined--like sugar and white flour. Especially since I have PCOS. I eat tons of vegetable starches, legumes, sometimes tofu--love the stuff--and vegetables and only take one small tri-chromium and cinnamon bark pill every morning and my blood glucose level is normal, in fact a little below average.
