Hi, Tisha. Spenda is actually made from sugar.
I use stevia. It is ground into a powder and is usually white. Stevia is an herb that is 300 times sweeter than sugar and is made by crushing and drying the herb. It has no carbs and won't lead to dental cavities. They've been using it in Japan since the 70's to sweeten soft drinks. If you buy it, be careful, because just a teeeeny bit does the job. Too much and you get a bad aftertaste. You can also buy it in liquid form, but the powder dissolves completely in any liquid. My favorite brand is KAL. You can get it in health food stores.

Ah, Tisha! I forgot to add. Although it is not related to sugar, I have found that like sugar, if I eat too much, it gives me intestinal problems...but that might just be me. If you have IBS w/ your endo, be careful with it! It's great stuff, just look out how much comes out of the jar!

Hey, Ouchy, I use stevia too. Thought that was neat. Never met anyone else who even knew what it was.

It is good, isn't it? I just haven't tried baking with it. That could be tricky. I just tried substituting applesauce for oil, so maybe I'll try that sub next.

HUM. I've only bought it in liquid form and then in a bottle w/ a little scoop. I've never tried baking with it, but I know you can check out stevia cookbooks from the library. I have made stevia ice cream. I looked the recipe up for that online. I used to have a whole conversion table, but I deleted it since I never bake with it. I just don't bake cookies or anything anymore unless they are for other people, so I haven't really experimented with it. Maybe we should have a stevia cooking day! LOL Sorry I can't be of more help, but definitely check out a stevia cookbook if you are interested.

What is in Stevia? I can't eat artificial sweeteners because they are migraine triggers for me. It would be great to have a sugar substitute that didn't trigger migraines!
