I discussed these things with the doc this morning including the IUD theory with bacteria possibly ascending the Mirena tail from tampon use or BV. His answer was 'You get it via STDs as a promiscuous woman or through a cut' um I think he got PID confused with HIV I kid you not. STDs can be caught from one sexual act with one person I swear this doc just arrived from the 80s or something. He was literally more interested in my job than the fact that I have to sit clutching my side. I'm fuming. He ignored the advice sent through by the emergency doc, he ignored everything I said. I had to push for a scan and a mucus swab... I'm not even sure if he's done the right test cos he gave me a chlamydia test. Aargh. This is the same doc who doesn't believe periods have any connection or effect on endo. He refused to send back to my gynae and I can't self refer cos it's been too long since I was discharged.

Oh, crap, now what?? If he's not going to send you to the gyn, do you just have to deal with it?? Or go back to the ER?? Oh, hun, I'd love to kick him in the nuts for you...

I think he honestly doesn't take anyone seriously. My sister used to go almost green whenever she ate and was referred to specialists, but when she saw this GP for the first time for a progress report he asked 'don't you think it's all in your head' but it turned out that she had chronic silent migraines. I called back the surgery and asked to see the other doctor there, it's a lady I've never met. I'm not even worried I don't think anything could be worse than this guy. He is a young doctor in a modern 'first-world' country and has the dumbest views on sexual and gynae health that I have ever heard come out of a medic's mouth. What doesn't make sense is that he told me I couldn't have PID because I wasn't 'a woman who sleeps around' (his words) but then he gave me more antibiotics to 'clear it up'. He says I'm vomiting because of the pain. I've been in worse pain just before surgery and not vomited so that doesn't make sense to me.
The pain has eased some but I'm still swollen and tired and can't sit straight for more than 20 minutes. Sorry about being so grumpy, it's annoying to say the least and I have no answers. It's appendicitis, no it's not, it's salpingitis, no it's not. I fully appreciate that it may just be endo but I need some help here, to know what it is and get some help with getting back to normal.

This is just sad and disppointing. I can't believe how hard it is to get proper treatment. "woman who sleeps around" my ass! Hell, I used to sleep around like a little wh0re bag and never got an STD! Now what? F*cking jerk! Tell him your sl*tty friend from the states says he's full of sh*T!

Hahaha! Jenaya you've made me laugh aloud here! I felt like telling him that the sl*t (I was too, not in a good way) sitting in front of him hadn't managed to catch an STD, but I think his face would have fallen off. He's an idiot. He asked when my relationship ended then proceeded to tell me that I would've noticed an STD from my ex within a month. Doesn't he know that some STDs can be silent? And um, does he think I have had my legs clamped shut since the break-up, cos he didn't even ask me? I appreciate you guys talking to me about this, even though between us we only have a thimble-full of knowledge on it, the support is important

Wow, and here I thought sex ed had made such strides in debunking so many of those myths... Perhaps sex ed hasn't made it that far in med school yet?
I would have loved to see the look on the doc's face had you told him that (Cherry or Jenaya). I would have died laughing!!!
Wish I knew more about your predicament, Cherry... Any chance it's adhesions causing terror on your tube?

I think so Karen, when the doc first mentioned checking my fallopian tubes during the exam, that's what I thought. But then he said it was an infection. Even though he was aware of the endo. I hope I'll get some answers from this new GP tomorrow, or at least some intelligent discussion and her expert opinion. My sister says she's a great listener and shows empathy, which will be such a relief after Dr Prude. I was in great pain last night despite the diclofenac and then again periodically through the day. My tummy is swelling up more and more but not in a dramatic fashion, plus now I'm spotting. I'll be honest it's making me miserable. If I get cleared for salpingitis and it's something else entirely, I'll delete this thread and start it anew.

Thanks Keri. The new doc was really nice, listened while I explained everything I'd been told and she said she understood why I was confused. She referred me to my gynae no problem and then told me to come back to her if I needed anything, even just to talk. We're awaiting the ultrasound now, I didn't want any of those nasty narcotic painkillers so she told me my hot water bottle was ok but not to burn myself again like I did last time. Having a doctor who listens like that is a huge relief, even though there was not much she could do in the immediate sense. I'm scared of the pain getting worse, she feels the bleeding (and thinks the bloating is resulting from that) is due to the vomiting, that I may have expelled my pill without absorbing it = missed dose. I hope that's why but the pain having been worse at the same time... well if it's gets worse I'm to go back and see her.

Oh, good, glad you were able to get in to see someone else, esp. someone that listened! So, how soon can you see the gyn?
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a one stop shop for docs? See the general dr. first, then they just send you down the hall to see the specialist you need. Ah, that'd be so sweet!

I would love that! With it being the NHS and a non-urgent referral, I'm guessing 3 months or thereabouts. My doctors surgery is good in that they have a dentist, a creche and a blood clinic on site. The u/s letter arrive this morning from a local clinic with the ominous words 'appointment coming soon' which made me laugh. The worst thing is that the ultrasound cannot be used by the gynae department, they will only look at scans done in-house at the Womens and I don't know if anyone remembers but I was waiting about 4 months for an appointment to check out the bad post-op pain on my left, that never materialised and I was discharged without it. I need to get a good job and go private!
One thing the doc said (I forget stuff really easily sorry) is that there's a study going on to see whether the risk from taking the pill continuously is negligible enough to let people like me take it back to back. She said she will let me know if she hears of an outcome and that she'd be ok with my taking it 6 months in a row before a break. Nice relief, I wasn't looking forward to having my next period over Christmas.

Who am I kidding the idea of travelling there and waiting so long and being prodded was too much. I came home and got into bed but I don't know what they'll give me if this carries on tomorrow. I was almost crying with the pain and my back was so sore that I couldn't walk properly.
