I take this for my seizure disorder. A very small dose 100mg 3 times a day the lowest dose you can be on. It can go into the over 1,000 plus mg. I would say anyone using this it can help with pain too. Dose is key if you have too much or not enough contact your doctor for a adjustment. I got taken down to 100mg at one point instead of the 300 and OMG I had the most horrible mood swings it was like I wanted to rip my husband head off. If anyone has a reaction of course stop it Karen your experience sounds awful so glad you got off it. I do think it works for me but no way would I go much more then I am at. It sits just right with me. My neurologist was clear this medicine makes a huge difference when it is the right dose. Good Luck to anyone using it.

I just came across this thread thought id add something. My mom was on this medication, not for endo but she had recently had surgery to have a fibroid tumor removed from her abdoman the size of a watermelon no joke! Anyway ii just remember when she was taking this medication she fell all the time. One time I took her to get new tires, she got out of the car and just fell right there in the parking lot. I ran over to the passenger side to help her up and her eyes were rolling up into her head. Was very frightening. I would be afraid to take it after how it affected my mom so badly. Sounds like your experiences were similar. Bummer... another bummer

Yikes, that's scary!!! I don't think I ever fell but I remember having to reach out and touch the wall while walking to keep my balance. Strangest sensation ever. I was so dizzy it wasn't even funny.

Just on my first day of this now. Feeling morphine style woozy and the pain is better but I'm dreading the possible side effects. Also due on nortryptiline another frightener. Wish me lucky wooky.

It has works wonders for me at a low dose of 300mg watch out tho Cherry like Karen said any changes call doc. Did they tell you to take it the same time and do not miss a dose your body will know and its awful. Discuss it with your doc if not I do not want to step on the docs toes. I learned the hard way. I also by accident had not looked at the bottle and the pharmacy switched the capsules and I usually took 3 100mg but they changed it to 1 300mg pill and I took 3 300 mg for a week til I figured it out I was way off that week and my blood pressure was really low. When I saw my GI doc is when I realized it the last time I was up there the nurse said she had a seminar on gabapentin and that most patients start out on about 500 to 1000 mg. So it made her feel better when I came back that I had not overdosed. It is a funny drug not for everyone I feel so bad that you had a bad time with it Karen.

It changes my pain to sharper but less unpleasant feelings. So the pain us like cold shoots of sensation. I have crunchy noises in my head like eating rice crispies. So glad I'm off work for this. Just lying down. I start on 300mg yesterday 600mg today then tomorrow my 3x300mg per day. Work this weekend will be a hoot I start the nortryptiline this weekend and in honesty antidepressants are really bad for me. Fingers crossed. Add: my doc didn't discuss timing which disappoints me but I zoned in when it says on the notes that you mustn't leave more that 12 hours between doses. So I'll do 8am, 2pm, 8pm. Damn I feel like mud sitting up

I'm getting used to the side effects but not entirely clear on what this stuff does cos I forgot to take my middle dose til 2 hours later and I could swear this stuff makes every little pain scream louder than it normally would. Shooting pains in my arms and upper back, heels feel tender, lower back and abdomen are killing me, left leg hurts so much that it's numb. It's making me tear up rather than puke I feel absolutely horrible. I woke up with pins and needles in my toes this morning, they looked a tad red underneath but that's all. Anyone know about this? Pharmacist says upper back pain is not the gabapentin, it's me and so I need to see the doc if I can't wait to see the orthopaedic doc in 2 weeks. It does say that gabapentin can cause back pain as a side effect though. Who knows.

Sorry, I didn't really stay on it long enough to get more side effects, but your have cocme on pretty quick. Can you call up the pain clinic? Try NHS Direct?

Um nhs direct tend to be not very good when it comes to meds. I think its the gabapentin making me weepy there's no need for all this self pity! I'll try em now...
EDIT: Spoke to one of my GPs, he reckons I should have been building it up over one week and not in accordance with the leaflet. Anyway no harm no foul. He's put me up to 4 doses a day so I'm on 1200mg and told me to start the nortryptiline tonight. I'm still in pain but the urge to be sick has passed, I'll take one of my normal NSAIDs in the meantime and try to sleep til it kicks in. Not looking forward to being in work.

What's the nortryptilene?

A cleaner drug than amytryptiline from the same group. Anti-depressant type painkillers.

See, I preferred amyryptilene to gabapentin. Had mild dizziness for a while but then I was fine, and it got rid of my intense rectal pain. Was only on 25 mg I think, and it worked. Had some drowsiness but nothing mega. If it's anything like the amy - take it a good while before you go to bed. Lessens the drowsiness.
