So by monitoring my diet very closely I can control my IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome if you didnt know) but lately it has been SOO bad! No matter what i eat it doesnt help. So I was at my boyfriends house for a family dinner and after the meal I could feel my stomach becoming very angry. I excused myself and was literally in the bathroom for 30 minutes. It got so bad that his family was knocking on the door asking if I was ok!!! SOO embarrassing to say the least. Its always one thing after another with this disease.

I know exactly how you feel! I try to be really careful what I eat too, but it still happens sometimes. I've found that I've developed new intolerances; for example, I used to drink soy milk. Yesterday I had a glass and an hour later I was running to the bathroom, where I remained for the next twenty minutes, doubled over in pain.

How is IBS diagnosed? How do you know that's what you have and that it's not just from endo? I suspect that I may have IBS but I'm not sure.

IBS is generally diagnosed when doctors can't pin it on anything else. I personally don't believe it's a condition in itself, I think it's always a manifestation of another problem, maybe an allergy or intolerance, or perhaps inflammation. Basically it's a 'catch all' for doctors.

Hey, a good friend of mine was just 'diagnosed' with it. It was only after they couldn't find something else wrong with her...

Basically it's a 'catch all' for doctors. Dang I couldn't have said it better. I really don't think it's a disease either. It's what doctors fall back on when they don't have anything else to call it. But it's diagnosed by clinical findings, meaning listening to your symptoms and making a judgement off of what you say. There is no test to diagnose it, it's usually diagnosed when other tests come back normal or the doctor just sucks and doesn't test anything. I agree with hellsbells. I really do think it's caused by some underlying issue like a food allergy. I think if you get a diagnosis like IBS it shouldn't end your search for answers. It's not something you have to live with forever just because it has a name. SOMETHING is not working in your stomach, SOMETHING is making you sick.

I met a loveyl gastro doc last year who said although IBS isn't 'serious' he does appreciate how much of an affect it can have on your life. Your digestive system is after all the root of all evil, or the root of all food, depending on how you treat it and put into it. Sometimes maybe it's just a sensitivity to external pollution os something, but I can't see how it can be an actual disease.
