Our cabin is in Crandon. I've got family in the UP. My dad is from there (I'm a Finn). They are from Calumet (near copper harbor)

Ah, I know Crandon! Used to drive through there when I was going from my dad's house to the UP. The place I always go is Iron River. My grandma was born there and eventually relocated to Illinois, but she had a cottage up there for years. My mom and sisters grew up going there for the summer and so did I, ever since I was born! We have a lot of distant relatives on the lake that we stay on. Gotta love the UP!!

I heart the UP. I love everything about it, especially the pasties, which reminds me, I have some in the freezer I should eat, but they are TOTALLY not endo friendly

Ha, pasties, love 'em! (For those that don't know, they are pronounced past-ies, not paste-ies!) My mom's side of the family gets together every January and makes a buttload of them to take and freeze so they can enjoy whenever they want. I've only participated twice (they live a ways away) but it's quite a production, and they are oh so yummy!

Where I live is just about the pasty capital of the world :-). We have a bakery chain called Greggs that make the most amazing ones. Then there's Cornwall of course, which practically has the patent on the pasty. Love 'em. Greggs cheese and onion are the best.
I wonder if they have pasties in the Caribbean......:-))

My family does the same thing!!!! My grandma was english and lived in the UP, so she taught us correctly. Now sure how your family freezes them but let me give you a GREAT tip. When you freeze them, freeze them raw. That way when you cook them (which you can do from frozen), it's like getting a fresh baked one everytime. Sometimes when you cook a pre-cooked on they can get weird.
I wish I lived in the Pasty capitol of the world!! We have people here who eat the frozen ones from the grocery store and then tell me they are gross and I'm weird for eating them. *sigh*

Awww Helen I want to come with you! NICE getaway! I just got back from Manasota Key Florida with my husband LOVED IT! And July 2nd we are taking my son and a friend to Ashville NC. Anyone ever been there? Its our first time there. I think we are going to the Biltmore and over to the Blue Ridge Mountains for some hiking and swimming at the waterfalls:) If I feel daring with two boys maybe whitewater rafting! We will see...
