If you are leaning toward trying the Implanon then I think what would help you make this decision is to have it established BEFORE hand with your doctor that if it doesn't work and you have a hard time with it then she will remove it immediately. I think part of the anxiety of trying these new drugs (besides to obvious of making things worse or side effects) is that it seems so permanent and we can't get rid of them once we try it. Maybe if you can tell her that you'll get it under the condition that she agrees to remove it at your request, then trying this treatment won't be such a scary thing. Then you won't have that fear of being stuck with something.

If you really don't want any more artificial hormones, I think you should stick to your guns. I really don't like how forced this all sounds. As for the comment on Depo being 'pretty powerful', it's worth pointing out that so is Implanon. There's 3 years worth of hormones in there--slow release or not. I'm not currently using any form of hormonal treatment because every progestogen only one I've tried left me in the same boat as Implanon (constant bleeding) and combined contraceptives (with estrogen in them) leave me with debilitating migranes. I know I would experience some relief from my pain if I stuck it out with one, but for me it wasn't worth the toss up to swap the pain for constant bleeding and emotional psycho-ness. But if you really feel like you want to try Implanon, I would do like Jenaya said and make sure it is with the understanding that the minute you decide you want it out, that's it. I wish they'd come out with a contraceptive that affected all women the same, so it would be easier. The annoying thing is that as anti-Implanon as I am, there's nothing to say you won't do great on it and you won't know until you try. But I think you should wait until after your Grandma's GP appointment and see if the bio-identical is an option for you before you make up your mind.

That's actually a good idea Jenaya. I'm having a different doctor put it in (if I actually decide to do it that is) because my new OBGYN is almost 4 hours away. But Marshfield Clinic has a branch right here in Hayward and my NP is trained to put in Implanon so I can just have her do that, and so maybe I can call and talk to her ahead of time (she's pretty good about calling me on the phone).

Hannah unfortunately you're right...we won't know anything till we try. But I totally get what you mean about choosing to be in pain or choosing to have side effects of drugs. Its like picking the lesser of two evils. And that's basically what my doctor said too. I will probably always have side effects to drugs and I will always have pain, but I have to find some combo of something that I feel I can handle and is somewhat of an improvement from what I'm currently suffering by just doing nothing. Agh. I hate making decisions. Especially when the last one I made to take the Depo was, what I consider, one of the worst decisions I ever made.

I know; I hate making decisions too--especially when it's a Rock V. Hard Place decision like this one. You'll figure something out eventually; it just takes a lot of trial and error.

This afternoon at 2 I'm having my Implanon put in. We'll see how it goes and what happens. I got my period on Tuesday and its been hell. This is in addition to the fact that, on Monday, my grandmother passed away unexpectedly. Happiness all around.

So sorry to hear about your Grandma, Shannon. I know it was so weird having the implant in at first. I couldn't stop fiddling with it and once it was all healed I had tons of fun freaking people out by getting it to poke up. But then the novelty wore off and I pretty much forgot it was there.

But it really hurts right now I hope it feels better soon. Did you get much bruising? My arm looked like it had been run over by a truck at first, but I was ok after a week or so.
