Nuh uh you don't know that this will happen til it happens, and besides you're a married couple and she's a family pet. She's everyone's joy and everyone's problem. I try to remind my sister of that.

What a stressfull weekend We arrived home from dinner and a movie on saturday night, and our new dog Niko wasn`t in the yard and the gate was open. OMG....So we look around the nabourhood, we can`t find him, and it is dark and cold. We went and picked up our kids from gramma`s house, and we had to tell them. OMG....My daughter cried all night, my husband was crying, I was crying all night.....We phoned the Humane society, and all we could do was hope. after quite a restless night, at 9:00 we arrived at the humane society to see if anyone had turned him in, but no one did, and then I was crying in public....so we went home, I started placing adds on three websights to hope that someone had him....more crying, and more explaining to my 7 year old daughter that we wouldn`t give up looking for him. But We back the edge of the city, and his tattoo is only good if he is found in this city, so I was so worried. Well at 1:00 the humane society called and said that he was at a pet store. one of the employs had been driving out of town when she picked him up. so she turned around and took him back to her work, where he spent the night and most of sunday. I phoned my husband who was out searching the nabourhood in our van and he went and got him from the pet store, where they were all treating him well, they said he was an awsome dog and they all wanted to keep him. Well of course they would say that because we think he is an awsome dog too....Then I cried some more when he came home. I never want to go threw that again.....We had to go out again sunday night, and we now know that he opened the gate himself on saturday, as when we got home on sunday the cord that we use to open the gate was frozen stiff with his saliva....he had locked the gate from the outside, so at least he was still home..... it is a good thing we love him because in the 5 weeks we have had him, he has destroyed my rug in two placed, chewed my new couch, distroyed two kennels, chewed three blankets and one house coat, chewed many kids toys, and distroyed the edge of my ledge in my living room, and chewed the edge of my drawer in my room.....Not sure how much more damage I can take.....But he is awsome And he makes me feel safe.

Aw Tara! Sounds like a horrible weekend but I'm glad you got him back! I wonder if you'd benefit from one of those invisible fence systems?

The humane society mentioned that when I called them for help when he chewed threw two kennels, I think we may go that route, as my little guy gets out regularly, the kids will accidently let him out, but after running around the nabourhood he comes home. Not that what he does is okay, but at least I know he will come home.

So I was in bed last night watching my little dog cocoa, He is a litttle sh*tzu, and I think he must have a lick quota that he has to fill everyday. He will lick just about anything including my husbands feet, my clothes, our other dog, the floor, the carpet, himself, and not to mention anyones face, but it is really weird when you look over and the arm of the chair is sopping wet where he is sitting because he just finished giving it a bath.

I swear to god, I have a bratty child and she has 4 legs and her name is Baxter... She has been in attention-seeking mode for the last 12 hours...
Last night before bed she was scratching at the front door, so I fed her some canned food in an attempt to shut her up. As I was trying to go to sleep, she was running around behind the curtains trying to get my attention. Then at 4 a.m., she started scratching the metal panel in my room (my bathroom is adjacent to my bedroom and there's a metal access panel in my bedroom to get to the shower pipes). When I ignored her, she'd jump into bed, walk in circles around me, walk back and forth over me multiple times, and when I still didn't move, she ran back to the access panel and started scratching again. She repeated this process several times until she finally got the reaction she wanted. All I did was sigh and *boom* just like that, she was at my side. The speed in which she jumped into bed can only be described as cartoon-fast. I figured she won so I started petting, but then Olive came over wanting to be petted, too. Baxter hates Olive, so Baxter ran away and started scratching again, so I had to make Olive happy but somehow get Baxter back over to me so she'd stop scratching the damn metal. It was this big game to her, and all during the wee hours of the morning. It is now 7 am and we have repeated this process enough times that it was just time for me to get up...
Now if only I could put some bourbon in her water tonight so she'll actually sleep...

I have a freaking piece of furniture in front of it, purchased precisely to hide it from her, but she's still able to get her bad-ass little paw behind it and piss me the f*ck off! I swear to god she's just like a little kid. Sometimes I've seen her scratch, look in my direction to see if I'm paying attention, then scratch again if I'm not... She's taking a nap at the moment. I might just have to mess with her.

yeah, go tickle her paws. Oh, and the only thing you need that you don't have? is a SQUIRT GUN. it is the number one annoying kitty antics preventer at our house. Plus it doesn't hurt kitty, is lots of fun, and water is just a non-toxic way to say 'fvck you, kitty!' it keeps our kitty from torturing the big dog, taking down the christmas tree, and just generally getting all up in everyone's business. and, it's fun and reduces husbandly stress. Plus we have all these tiny squirt guns, all over, leading to impromptu duels and sneak attacks and ambushes.... between me and W! enjoy.

She tried scratching again last night but I told her she was not going to pull that on me again and that we were going to get a good night sleep. She stopped after I scratched her chin and made her lay down. I tried the water bottle thing years ago - even found one with quite a reach! But she's quite a cat... When I'd spray her, she'd stop what she was doing... and then come after me directly... I used to have to give her time-outs, which involved trapping her under a blanket or towel until she calmed down...

It's irritating as hell but the Baxter story made me laugh. Sometimes my kids run around between 3 and 4am like a pair of freaking elephants. If I get up to go lock them into one room for the night, they're lying on their blankies innocently and blinking because I've rudely turned on a bright light. Pair of ass-pains.

Karen I use to have cats and two things to try if you haven`t already is that cats are not suppose to like the smell of oranges, so If you could find some of that orange cleaner or a air freshiner to try around the area. The other thing that cats don`t like is tin foil, We had to put it in our baby`s crib to keep the cat out. So maybe wrapping some of that around the area might help. Good luck.

Ooh, thanks for that reminder, Tara! Vicks Vaporub works, too! (I always get the stink-eye from Baxter when I whip that out.) I'll have to leave an open jar of that out tonight... She's scratching pretty consistently these days. Although, I think I have a distraction for her... I'm putting up my fake tree tonight and I forgot how much she LOVES to chew on that thing! Perhaps tonight she'll be in the living room gnawing on the tree out of earshot instead...
