Im not sure whether to be mad or grateful or what. I definately dont want this thread to make anyone upset or anything but i found out some interesting news yesterday and im not sure what to do.
I have a 14yr old who has ADHD-ODD, according to the government, they consider that a disability and i should have been getting $205 a month for him.
I found out yesterday that if i get his doctor to fill out a child tax disability certificate, they will immediately back pay me for the last 3 years as well as adjust my taxes for the last 3 years and i will get a rebate from that as well.
I dont want to look a gift horse in the mouth or seem greedy, but after calling the government to confirm this is in fact true, i was informed that i can ask for retro payments from the day of diagnosis. He was 7 when he was diagnosed. They told me that as long as they recieve the signed form from his doctor, they immediately pay back 3 years and if i want more, such as retro pay back to the day of diagnosis, i will need to fill out another form.
Should I just accept the 3 years and be happy or should i go for it all?
Im looking for advice on this because Brad just says "its your money, do what you want".
If i persue the option of going for it all, it totals almost $17,000.
I never in my life thought i'd be in the position of second guessing myself about recieving tax free money but ive gone this long without it.
Why hadnt i been told about this before?
Advise please???
