So I'm 3 days post surgery and feeling really well. My boyfriend has been really wonderful throughout this experience these last few weeks--from pre-surgery jitters & surgery day tears, to taking care of me in the aftermath. Yesterday, on Thanksgiving he proposed to me ;D ;D ;D ;D He had been planning this for Thanksgiving for a while I guess. I was completely surprised. I tell ya, Endorphins do wonders for pain! FYI Surgery recovery update--I have been doing much better now that I stopped the percocet. I couldn't even stomach 2 days on that stuff.

Congrats on the engagement!!!!!!!!! That's freaking awesome! How did he do it?? Kind of a long story, but he had been planning to do it thanksgiving day. He ended up having to work because he took Tuesday off for my surgery. He put a card and a box on the kitchen counter, and tried a few things to get me out of bed and into the kitchen that morning. His efforts failed because when I woke up Thursday I felt a little crappy--I had taken myself off the pain meds and was somewhat enduring the pain--most of which came upon getting out of bed, so I was in no hurry to do so. So I didn't get up to make coffee, didn't get up to feed the bird, etc....I asked him to go get a paper for me so I could look at the Friday ads in bed, which he did--and it took him a really long time. Apparently he drove around the block a few times hoping I'd get out of bed and find what he left in the kitchen before he walked in the door. I didn't Kind of makes me laugh to think about his efforts and my lack of cooperation! So he decided I guess to leave the card and box in the kitchen. He went to work and within a few minutes, like maybe 2! I was thirsty so had to get up and get water. I walked in the kitchen and there was a card and a box--and I thought to myself "oh, he got me a feel better present" how sweet. Except when i opened the card he had painted 'will you marry me' in a rainbow of colors. I just stood in the kitchen in shock--and he was at work. It cracks me up. I had to wait 5 hours for him to get home to say yes. I called my sister immediately but swore her to secrecy until we could tell the rest of the family. I have a twin and we are really close. My BF came home and of course I said yes and then he said "how long did it take for you to call your sister". ha he knows us well ;D For our engagement he had a beautiful custom necklace designed that includes a star sapphire that my grandfather made for my grandmother (he cut, polished and set a pair of star sapphire earrings for her about 40 years ago, that I received from my mom after my grandmother passed away). I always wanted to turn one of the earrings into a necklace--and that's what he did for me. I plan to turn the other sapphire into a tie tack from him using the same jeweler. The necklace also has a beautiful Australian blue opal that looks like the ocean. ;D ;D ;D ;D That's the story.

Aww, how sweet about the star sapphires! That's so nice to keep all that in the family, and that he was so thoughtful to put the plan in action! I think it's HILARIOUS that you didn't cooperate by getting out of bed while he was still there, and even funnier that he was at work when you opened it! Congrats to the both of you!!

Awwwwwww congratulations! What I find most romantic about this is that he proposed while you were laid up in bed. It's like he truly means through sickness and in health AWWWW!!!!!!

Awwwwwww congratulations! What I find most romantic about this is that he proposed while you were laid up in bed. It's like he truly means through sickness and in health AWWWW!!!!!! Yes and my surgery was planned & scheduled in October, and he asked my dad for permission to marry me ( did I mention that part?) in July when we were on a family vacation! Apparently he told them he was planning to ask me on Thanksgiving. You see I'm finding out more little details like this every day! I had no idea he had or would even ask my dad. I'm glad he didn't postpone regardless of the surgery! Recovery Update: Spent the day on the beach enjoying the mild weather and sunshine. It was still cold, 55 degrees--but a much needed day in some fresh air walking. Bruising all of a sudden went from pretty dark to really freaking dark since this afternoon to tonight (maybe I did too much today?). I thought it was getting lighter and tonight it's crazy purple and red. poor itchy belly!

Yep things kind of itch at times, right around the incision, but both incisions are looking really well. I'm curious if stitches in bottom are dissolving kind or if they'll have to be taken out (i didn't even notice there were stitches until a few days out). The bruising is a little better this morning. It did get a little wicked looking yesterday evening. Oh and apparently my skin does NOT like Iodine. I have a mild rash from under my boobs to my thighs--everywhere they put iodine. I have eczema issues at times, and ultra sensitive skin. It's not itchy, just a little raised--like the hair follicles are unhappy. Looks great Oh and the beach--oregon.

I had a similar experience with the iodine (and eczema)... Had a red rectangle all over my body with a clear line of where they draped me off! Also had spots wherever they had the monitors hooked up to me. I found it cleared in a week or so.
The beach sounds fab!
