Pamelaj...I'm on medical leave on EI right now...just a warning. They only give you 9 (actually 7 weeks after they take the first two for themselves...sigh) weeks initially for medical leave and then you have to request and 8 week extension. So only 15 weeks and then that runs out too. I just had the Lupron shot done last week and we aren't sure how the shot will affect me, if at all so I'm not supposed to go back to work for awhile yet. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do since my last payment will be early December. I hope everything works out for you!!! I can't believe that they only give us 15 weeks for medical leave....and BONUS...my crappy company doesn't have short term disability which is why I had to go on medical leave in the first place. Hope you have more luck than I did!

I was told by the EI lady who switched that because i was on regular benefits, then switched to medical that my 2 week waiting period is waived therefore creating no slag in benefits. Mine run out on Dec 28th. Then i will have to go back to work

I was on EI (sickness leave) for 15 weeks. Does anyone know (in Canada of course) if I have to work the certain # of hours again (somewhere between 400-500) to be able to be laid off and collect regular benefits or could I be laid off now b/c sickness EI benefits don't count against your insurable earnings?

I thought (I'm in Canada) - That after you have done your 15 weeks of medical EI, you could apply for long term disability, (unless your imployment doesn't have long term disability). It is extremely difficult to get long term disability - Just a warning. The best way to find out the correct info would be to call EI, and talk to them, find out what you need in documentation from your Doctor. And go from there. I do believe also that after your 15 weeks of Medical, you can go on regular EI ( but you would then have to do the paper work every two weeks - to prove you are looking for work that kind of thing). Good Luck, Keep us posted on what you find out.

I know that when i was looking down that road, i was able to get CPP disability if its long term. It is there if your EI runs out and you cant are unable to work for awhile.
Just a thought
