I am so SICK of being told everything is NORMAL!!!!!!!! Had sigmoidoscopy this evening - home enema prep wasn't as bad as I'd expected, trotted off to hospital, got there 30 mins early, and then I didn't get seen until 30 mins past my appt time. Well p1ssed off. Doctor did an external check - normal. Digital exam - normal. Camera check - normal. Prep worked well and I have a shining example of a healthy bowel. Which yes, is cool, I know. So ask why do I get so much freakin pain in my arse if everything is NORMAL?? Why, within 30 - 60 mins of a bowel movement does the pain in my arse get so bad I have to take pain killers?? That is SOOO not NORMAL!!! Oh yes, according to the doc, it is. Some people just get pain. No haemorrhoids, no fissures, tears.....so why do I bleed nearly EVERY TIME I go??? And the answer: I just have to live with it. Only conclusion that I can come to is that the pain is being caused from outside the rectum.......oh God roll on laparoscopy..........I need a date sooooon!!!!!!! Hope you're all well xxx ;D

Have you asked your lap doctor if he is adept at identifying and removing intestinal endometriosis and/or adhesions/scar tissue? If you have bowel issues, you need to know this before your lap.

Also, you need to have a gameplan between you and your doc on what to do if your appendix is affected, either by endo or scar tissue, or something else. Basically, keep or remove.

I guess at this point I'm just waiting for the lap - I'm assuming there will have to be som pre-op discussion, as there's no way I'm letting some guy knock me out and cut me open without knowing what he plans to do while he's in there! I've only ever had the initial consultation with gynae, so I'm kind of hanging on tenterhooks just now!

My advice is to also reject the demerol (spelling?) or whatever other sedative they want to give you before the surgery. I like to see my surgeon just before I go under to make sure he is in a good mood, fully awake, steady-handed, and I let him know my painful spots again. A re-cap is always good!

I think a lot of girls can relate to hearing 'it's all normal'. So frustrating! It sucks because you get your hopes up that someone must know what they're talking about in order to order a test, but a lot of times, they're just ruling stuff out. And, unfortunately, a sigmoidoscopy is less invasive than a lap... BUT, think of it this way - you're one step closer to a possible diagnosis. This isn't in your head, you're not making this stuff up, they just need to go through the motions to figure it all out. Unfortunately, their timelines don't always seem to match up with our urgency.
Ditto everything Ouchy said. Best of luck getting a lap date!

Problem is that the gastro referral was from my GP, I got to my gynae by going private and the gastro side aren't really talking to the gynae side so I have to make sure any letter/info gets passed across. But I do feel better that things are getting ruled out and hopefully closer to getting a diagnosis and some appropriate treatment. Fingers crossed! And thanks for your support girls xx

Update - every day since I had the appointment with gynae I've come home from work in anticipation of there being a letter waiting with a lap date. So I decided today to try and ring the hospital and see what was happening. I did, and they give me the 'pencilled in' date of December 22nd. I sure have some mixed feelings about this!

I'm not too bothered about the wait, been waiting bout 5 weeks already, just glad to know it's coming. It's only provisional, I'm hoping it might be put back a little til after the festive season! If they bring it forward it'll cause problems cos I'm flying on Dec 11th.

Atherhel I wonder if you should check out another doctor? because if this doctor thinks anal bleeding is normal that seems all wrong. I don't know if you'd want someone looking around inside you that thinks that way too.. just a thought. I wish I had a endo specialist look inside me instead of my obgy..

Hey Kitty, I have different doctors - GP, Gynae and then the people at the hospital where I had the sig done. Too many people not talking to each other, getting kinds frustrating. I'm pinning all my hopes on gynae now to get to the 'bottom' of it.....lol (Aaah you gotta try and keep on smiling!)
